It wouldn't be a lot to go through if the homeowner had understood why the doorbell is needed and if you had accepted the original design. They didn't design it for one-offs, they designed it to work in the majority of houses. Then, you let the GC solve the problem.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
