Well, this house is in that neighborhood. The odds of actually needing surveillance is pretty low. It’s more likely to be used when one of their drunk friends falls after a party and tries to sue.

Tell them that Ring and Nest aren't admissible in court. Only pro solutions can submit to the cross-examination.

But I needed some information to tell her why she can’t just use the plastic turd stuck on the door frame.

Video recording.

This is like pulling teeth.

Okay, video recording. For how much time? Kept where? Available for how long?

At this point I'm just trolling you... I'll look it up. But how hard would it have been to state something about how much video recording.

Fins,
it's not that they can't pay five bucks a month. It's that they feel entitled to get that service for no monthly charge. But you know that.

Every one of these DIY-type things (as seen in CEPro!) seem like someone could just walk up to it, yank it off the wall, and install it at their own house! And if you live in a neighborhood where nobody would ever do that then you probably can get by with a plain old doorbell.

As "Custom" Integrators aren't we supposed to be installing Siedle, HaloVision, C4, Panasonic, Elan etc?

And if a client is willing to shell out $5 (or much more) per month then that RMR should be going into your business.

you see, the problem with "custom integration devices" they dont offer even a 10th of the features the mainstream devices do. I'll take C4s 1500-2500 door solution. The camera is garbage, the intercom anywhere BARELY works and it doesn't have alerts, zoning etc like even the most basic of DIY products does. even if you can get past all of that, they are ALL commercial ultra modern MDU looking devices. MOST homes in my area are traditional homes where a device like these "pro solutions" would NEVER fly.

My clients int the city that do have the C4 door station have been asking me for almost a year when features like alerts and intercom (well that came, kind of) Its always a fun conversation to have when someones $2500 DOORBELL doesnt do even the most basic things that their friends $220 doorbell does.

I dont think its a matter of security. I think its a matter of knowing when someone is at your door, especially when you are in the back yard, basement etc. I live in a nice neighborhood. It doesn't mean I dont want security and an idea when someone is at my door when im not around to answer.

What’s the integration? My understanding is it’s very limited because ring doesn’t use a standard video format

it is, no video integration. But you can have alerts and things triggered within c4 with his driver. its just a cleaner and nicer way of doing integration then running it through a contact closure and custom programming something. not like its hard, its just a nicer method.

Agree with others in this thread. I removed the Ring Pro and replaced with Hello for a much better experience. Ring constantly had voltage issues despite the many "modules" they sent me and the fact I have a confirmed 18V transformer in good working order. I also had tons of latency and connection problems with the Ring that I have not experienced with Hello.

Agree with your point, but the aesthetics, convenience and AI in the Nest Hello are better experiences. I augment the Nest with a hardwired, "pro" IP camera for true security.

If the person whose phone is notified is not present, the doorbell is worthless. The GC came up with a solution for that: he got an Alexa device (I think) and put it near the front door. When someone hits the Nest button, this thing announces that there's someone at the front door. Whew. What a lot to go through.

It wouldn't be a lot to go through if the homeowner had understood why the doorbell is needed and if you had accepted the original design. They didn't design it for one-offs, they designed it to work in the majority of houses. Then, you let the GC solve the problem.

Why not? They all have some kind of time stamp.

They have a Pro Portal with training.

If the client performs some kind of service, ask them to provide it for you, without charge. That might make them understand.

well said.

I will also say the door birds look like shit. As does almost any other real non diy offering. Which sucks. I still see no real awesome solution for integration out there.

You think the Doorbird brushed stainless flush-mount looks like shit? I guess you'd hate the Siedle as well.

Maybe you should market an old-fashioned looking antique brass monstrosity with scroll work and a cotton doily surround. I'd prefer something more 21st century.

So after using DoorBird, ring, Clare and nest at multiple locations and installs the Nest is easily the best of the bunch. It’s really not even close.
Performance, ease of use and setup the Nest is a home run.
