How did you have it set up? I have some ideas I'm kicking around...

Think of something along the line of: [Link: realtruck.com]

I built my own using 1/2" plywood. Added legs that dropped down when fully extended.

Covered with an Extang "Full Tilt" tonneau (best one I've found) that can be removed in minutes when you need to haul something tall.

All my tools and everyday items were easy to get to in the drawers, while wire boxes and larger items on the upper deck.

Thought about adding locks, but never did, and never really needed to.

On a side note-How hard is it to weld basic steel?

While it's not all that hard, it would be best to take a class. Otherwise it'll be a lot of trail and error, and you'll use up a lot of material.

Your new truck an extended cab?

If so, remove the back seat and set that area up for your Festool stuff if you can.
