Strengths:Nice look and feel, liked the balance between hard keys and touch screen.
Weaknesses:Trouble with key learning and macro setup, low contrast on the touch screen.
Review:Frankly, I don't really mind having my coffee table tessellated with remote controls, but I really need *one* that my girlfriend can pick and use to watch TV without my assistance. I ran across the RCU900 at the electronics store (didn't know about this site at the time) and I thought it would do the trick. Sadly, it didn't.

I wanted to like this unit; it felt really good in my hand and seemed to have everything laid out in a reasonable way. Unfortunately, I just couldn't get it to learn consistently. It picked up my TV, Cable Box, and A/V Receiver from the codes with no problem. I even managed to create a macro for turning everything on and off with 2-key ease. What hung me up was trying to get a single device set up that would change channels via the cable box and volume via the receiver. Sometimes it would learn a key, sometimes it wouldn't. At one point I had it all working, only to have it stop working mysteriously the next day.

Eventually I gave up. I starting searching the internet, thinking that there must be a bigger selection of remotes than the 6 hanging up at the store. That led me here to remotecentral, and I was thrilled to see all of the choices along with reviews and comments from users! I've settled on the Harmony SST-768 and ordered it online; the RCA goes back to the store for a refund today.

From the other reviews here, I can only conclude that my unit was faulty in some way. Too bad, but in a way, I'm glad - the Harmony looks like a really great remote for what I need, and I wouldn't have known about it if the RCA had worked a little better. =)

Review 4 made on Tuesday July 8, 2003 at 11:22 PM.
Strengths:Ease of use, 100% learning functions
Weaknesses:Can't edit button labels
Review:This remote is absolutely top notch. Another reviewer said it didn't work with panasonic products, but I had no problem with a strange combination of Panasonic, Technics, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony and RCA. While the product codes didn't work out of the box, it learned absolutely EVERY function of my existing equipment. While not as customizable as more expensive units, it does have some button customization options, and the whole thing is very intuitive to use. A stellar pick for any multi-brand A/V or home theatre setup.

Review 3 made on Tuesday May 6, 2003 at 9:47 PM.
Strengths:Easy to use and program.
Weaknesses:I lost the intruction manual on how to program it and getting a replacement from RCA is like pulling teeth. I still don't have a replacement. LCD screen is hard to read in low light without using the backlight, which emits a high pitch noise when you turn it on.
Review:I have had the remote for 4 months now and it worked flawlessly until my 2 year old got ahold of it and messed up the programming. My biggest complaint is trying to get a replacement set of intructions from RCA.

Review 2 made on Friday February 14, 2003 at 7:43 PM.
Strengths:It worked on a hybrid tv. (PHILLIPS-MAGNAVOX)
Weaknesses:LCD screen could be clearer.
Review:My phillips magnavox tv and sony vcr were up and running in minutes after taking it out of the box. I liked the powerful signal it has. Sleek design. I was told when purchased my phillips magnavox tv that if the remote control was lost it had to be replaced with the original model remote control. They were wrong.
