Strengths:Advanced codes
jp1 interface (thanks to Rob and group)
Feel of the plastic
Shift keys
Weaknesses:Manual
Memory
Review:I actually bought this remote for a family member who needs a universal remote. But I'm using it first to program my other remotes. I have its brother from RCA and an MX-500. Both of these remotes needed a little help, which the RS-1994 supplied incredibly well.

The advanced codes are incredible. Using data from Remote Central and www.hifi-remote.com I've been able to learn functions my original remotes never had, and to teach my 'bigger' MX-500 some functions unavailable before. With this capability and the jp1 interface the RS-1994 is easily the best value on the market.

The manual is a joke: again, if it weren't for these websites, nothing would ever get done with this remote. Also, the memory is almost useless for learning. But I am jumping into the jp1 group so this problem should go away.

I like my MX-500 better for actual use and day to day capability, but for programming, the RS-1994 is a wonderful 'add-on' to the bigger remote. And very capable of handling almost any setup. My home theater has too many functions to really be easily controllable without being able to modify labels, but the RS-1994 could handle it in a pinch. I'd never be able to remember where I put certain functions without an LCD screen like the MX-500's, but it's kinda strange to need a $30 remote in order to make my $150 remote work better.

Strengths:Just bought RS 15-1994
Review:I just wonder what button should I use to program the Sony Receiver. There is none listed on the remote for this unit.
I Saw TV/CD/CBL/VCR but not RCVR.

Also, can I program the AUX1 to recognize my Sony Rcvr.

Also on my Rcvr I can rotate one of the knobs to get to TV/Video1/Video2/CD/DVD.
How can this RS remote be programmed to do the above.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Strengths:Cheap, illuminated, big and nice feel, very capable, flexbility.
Weaknesses:Volume punch-through limitation.
Review:Wow, I have gone from a UC-515 and did not care for the touch screen, and sold it. Then a Sony VL-900 where the macro function stopped working a week after warranty coverage expired. $100, $55, now $30 and I think I finally have the best.
Easy to program, have not tried it with PC yet, would like to overcome the volume punch through problem. I like the feel of this remote, though slightly bigger, is actually lighter than the Sony.
It does what I need. When you consider a remote is only in your hand less than a minute a day, and does absolutely nothing to improve your audio or video performance, why spend more?

Strengths:Excellent: can do it all. Much more learning capability than the product literature reveals or any salesperson at Radio Shack knows about.
Weaknesses:Radio Shack personnel and instruction manual.
Review:There is no way I would have purchased this without reading previous on-line reviews. It has very run-of-the mill packaging and the store personnel know very little about this other than the fact that you can control 6 devices. In addition, I was ready to return this until I read the online manual at http://www.rockabilly.net/ofa/...l.shtml?15-1994. The advanced programming function allows you to reprogram almost any button so that I've used very little of the actual learning function. I'm hoping that I can use that to learn the codes for my remote controlled gas fireplace. Anybody have any experience with that?

Strengths:Great Backlight
Good feel
Price
JP1 Interface for hacking!
Weaknesses:Not enough memory
Need to build JP1 interface to get the true power from it
Review:Bought an UltimateTV system and hated the remote it came with. Found out about this remote from the UltimateTV forum on AVSForum (http://www.avsforum.com). Bought this remote for $29.95 and the parts needed to build the JP1 interface for about $10. Without the JP1 interface, I could not control 1 of my devices without filling up the memory with learned commands. But, after building the interface, I can control all 6 of my devices and still have lots of memory left over. If you buy this remote, make sure to visit http://www.hifi-remote.com to get the most out of it.

There is no better value out there. It's got a great look, great feel, great backlight, it's got learning functions, macros, a sleep timer, and to make it do anything you want, the JP1 interface. All for $30 + $10 in parts. Why spend $100 - $300 for the other remotes? This thing does it all!

Strengths:Very good size and 'feel'. Buttons are large, well placed and also have a good feel. Back-lighting is EXCELLENT. It has learned everything that I've thrown at it except the infamous Sony surround sound controls.
Weaknesses:More memory would be nice.
Review:As far as bang for our buck goes...this simply can't be beat. I was a hairs breath away from purchasing the new MX-500, but thought I would give the RS a shot because I liked the feel of it so much. Macros work great. Learning is great. Wife likes it a lot more than our Sony AV2000. This really is a 10 out of 10. Get the manual on-line from the links described in other reviews. Paid $30 on-sale at Rat-Shack. I'm using it with a Pioneer DVD, Sony Receiver, Mitz HDTV, Sony VCR and Sony CD. Flawless.

Strengths:Programmability, Back lighting, Price
Weaknesses:No DVD, DirectTV labeled buttons
Review:This is by far the best remote I've owned. Do not waste your money on an All 3 One Remote, this combines the best of those with the ability to program 4 additional buttons per device. I replaced 5 remotes - and have NEVER had to return to them to control "special features". They either auto programmed, or I programmed them myself. Great backlighting feature, great feel. Great buy from Radio Shack - who knew?!
