Well I stumbled upon this forum during my online research regarding universal remotes.

I am in the market for one for the first time. But I had specific needs, since I would like this purchase to last me a while.

First would be to narrow down hopefully more then one model which meets my needs and then to search for a good price.

Needs:
1. Future compatibility - it should have some way of learning codes or upgrades available so that I can use it with my future purchases.
2. Customizable - I did not say programmable, I would like something where I can customize what I want to see on its screen, so yes touch screen is reqiured. So I can have the usual functions right there on the display and don't have to go through menus and stuff. Some thing like group functions and everyday use bottoms.
3. one had or two had doesn't matter, as long as its not too big.

The MX-3000 seemed a little too big, RC9800i did not come through in the reviews and customization.

Looking at the Harmony1000 and TSU9600.

What can some of you experts, recommend?

regards and thank you in advance - I know its a old tiring question but I tried to provide some specifics and hence the question

I think you should probably stick with the pronto remote. Most Harmony remotes don't let you do full customization to the remote. You can customize it, but its limited. With the pronto, its going to take you a little longer to get up and running but you will be able to have more control of the remote. Also there are tons of pronto files on this site in the pronto section to help you.

I saw the two today, and the TSU9600 seemed a lot better. I would wait for the pronto. I have had the 3500 and 7500, both great remotes.

Thanks guys, this will be a big purchase for me so in January (hopefully I will have it by then) I will post a review.

I would like to see on the display only what I need, on/offs for VCR/TV/CABLE/DVD/Xbox,
play buttons and inpurt change, close caption, mute that all I usually need. Also I hope they kept the group function from the RC9800i, Its nice to press/touch one button and have the input changed and device on at the same time. Also the EPG would nice.

I have to be honest, I never thought a remote would be so expensive.

It's only expensive because you want a touchscreen and you want to be able to control what's displayed on the screen, that pretty much limits you to the Pronto. However, if you don't need a full color screen, you can pick up the older Pronto models on ebay quite cheaply.

Thanks Dave, I will When is it coming out?

Is the learning function on it limited then the 7500?

I was looking at the philips site today comparing the two and there was some stuff which was not in the 9600.
