Hi guys,

I would like to control an aplaince with rs232 connection from two different controllers (for example a Pronto remote and a KNX system).

I've got a good tech tip from the Pronto guys but it only works for sending commands, not for feedback.
I've also found a rs323 portsplitter, where you can connect two devices that can talk two-way to one device. But you need a trigger signal to open the com-port and a Philips rfx9600 can't do that.

Does somebody has any experiance with this?

Best Regards,

Helgi

The dipswitch settings on this hub can be a bit tricky to work out, but we found this works for cases where you've got a PC/control system attached to port one on a straight through cable, and then straight through cables to TVs that accept commands on pin 3:

0101 1010 1010 1010

This setting makes it so port 1 to 2, 1 to 3 and 1 to 4 are all straight through within the hub. The relationship of port 2 to 3, 2 to 4 and 3 to 4 is crossover. Test this thing on a bench, it can be a bit of a headache.

Another thing to look out for is echoing chatter. If the cables are complete, the hub allows everything to talk to one another. If an AV device sends "ER>" when it gets a bad message, and it also responds to "ER>" being sent with it with "ER>" you can end up with garbage bouncing around. In our application (one controlling device and three TVs) we severed the connection that allowed the TVs to talk back to get around this (we didn't require feedback). Another solution in this scenario would be setting the panels to different ids and only sending commands to specific panels, but the only way to be sure things aren't going to interfere is to study the protocols of the stuff on the 232 hub.
