My custom A/V company is considering switching from Xantech URC-2's to RTI T1's. I've heard rumors of reliability issues with the T1. Are they true, and if so, what kind of issues?
We would have a high volume of these units in the feild, so reliability is very important.
Thanks in advance for any info...

I have not heard of any reliability drawbacks with this remote, what have you heard? I personally think it is a great remote, I like that it comes with a bunch of additional pre-labeled buttons, that you change out to suit your needs.

How many threads are you going to post this question in?

Sorry, I just am not sure who reads what.
I've posted reply in "Custom Installers":

Actually I've heard of problems with the RTI's in general, on these forums. The T2 and T2+ backlights, RF range, etc.
Like I said, we'd probably end up selling alot of units (as we do now with URC-2), and need to minimize service calls. We've had amazing success with Pronto TSU 6000/7000, but are looking for a lower price remote solution to go along with the Prontos.
Thanks

I have not had any problems with the T2+ after 5 installs. I know it's not alot but with the T2, 5 installs would have presented at least a few call backs. RTI's new product is more reliable and attractive and from what I understand the T1 and T2+ are built on the same platform (internals and software) minus the touch screen and reliability should be the same.

Since I have installed many T2+ and T1 remotes over the past month or so, the problems are still there, even if small. I have several T2+ with the "scramble screen" syndrome, one that had all displays working fine-except no ir coming out of remote and several have the "dog whistle" syndrome which is caused by bad charging transformers.

That being said, the new remotes are still the best in the business, with the RP-6 RF unit having range that is staggering. I do not use any other remote control system.

Of course my own T1 has a bad battery or circuit that always keeps the LED on the remote red, even after being charged(par for the course). Eventually on one of these nice unhurried slow days I'll get down to my friendly ASSvad and get a cheerful exchange.

I just don't get comments like this. Avad might not be the best source as far as dealer protection goes but the got what you need when you need it.

If there so bad don't buy from them!
