Just a review from someone who has dealt with lots of hair falling out from over 4 years of using the RTI product in basically every installation our company does.

Believe me, I've tried to switch to other remotes at the behest of my partner but I never could get another remote that could be easily programmed and be given to a customer with pretty much a 99% guarantee that the customer would not have to call me repeatedly in the beginning of the usage of a system.

The T2+ w/RF worked FLAWLESSLY in every location in the 60x40 ft family room that had a NEC 50" plasma tv. I just put the antenna on top of the bookshelf behind some books at about 4ft high and just laid the Rf box in the bottom of the cabinet holding all the gear, sat boxes, dvd player, denon receiver, etc. I was expecting the notorious null spots, but I could not find any! I can't believe no trouble shooting.

Since I am the worst critic, so my customers get the best equipment, I did find some quirks. The battery charging cradle which holds the remote like a vertical cell phone charger had a high pitch noise coming out of the transformer, it is almost like a dog whistle. Yes, all 3 T2+ chargers that I have in other kits have this noise regardless if the charging light is on or off, so I put the transformer part in the bottom of the cabinet behind the reciever.

The software is nice that you can open old files from the ver 1.2 and merge anything you want. The hard transport controls don't get any merged info though. Also when you merge a device, you need to realize that the hard "menu" button is still considered the "main menu" button of the T2. I found this out by leaving it blank on the sat page and pressed it thinking it was the menu button for the satellite, I then found myself on the home page.

Also the new global function buttons under "remote properties" are great, however since sometimes I don't put volume on some pages it automatically puts volume on all pages and when you take volume off of one page it then takes it off of all pages( I'll stick to pasting them manually to all pages like before) Also you have to remember to download both the remote and RP-6 every time changes are made, if only the remote is updated and the RF Box isn't, the buttons on remote will be triggering crazy things and don't leave the USB cable attached to your computer and the RP-6, or RF will not work.

Nitpick Off

I hope I don't seem too critical, but we've been waiting along time for this new system to be here, and I hope some of these comments will help others. Overall the new software and remotes/ RF is awesome!!

Thanks for the report: some questions for you:

-Is the v2.0 program CD included with the remote?
-re the volume punchthrough comment: I thought I saw a menu where you could set which devices punch through?
-re charger noise: Is it just the wall wart that makes the noise? I hope it is not the desktop unit itself?

Hopefully I will see my hardware tomorrow if my dealer ships via air freight as promised!

The new remote does not come with software or way to learn ir codes. I had download the software from RTI after obtaining a dealer password and id from them. I sent them an e-mail with my business name and address etc., and I got it in a few days. I have been dealing direct for repairs and initially was buying direct until distribution was in place. I do like the new policy which actually is in the manual about only selling remote to system integrators, I do have customers who would love to buy around me to save a couple bucks, forgetting about many years of programming expertise.

The IR PRO Kit comes with a learner and two USB cables, one for connecting to IR learner and RP-6, the other to connect to remote. Some say the remote cable is the same as the Pronto 7000 cable, but I don't know. It was a bummer to have to spend between 300 and 500 dollars for the cables and learner.

The charging noise comes from the wall wart part. The new design has a removable ac cord connected to the flat rectangular transformer( similar to LCD TV style but smaller). My wife says she can't hear it but I know one of my customers will.

The global keys funtion is ok, however I like to set all pages to have volume and just take it off of those that I don't ( pages for Zone 2, 3 on a multi room receiver) and when you take it off those pages it takes them off of all. Minor issue.

Hope this helps....gary

The software must be downloaded from the dealer section of rticorp.com. It is password protected, you will need to get the password from RTI.

As far as the global question, if you are refering to the global key list in properties, no, that won't let you defeat certain pages. If there is another list somewhere else, I haven't seen it.

We're still waiting on the remote, so I don't know the answer to the charger noise.

Worth mentioning........ The antenna module is separate and does not come with the base unit. You have to order it separately. By the time you put the RM-433 antenna module and the RP-6 Control processor together, be prepared for sticker shock.

Finally my T2+ has arrived!!

Looks darn good: like a T2 on a low carb diet with a sleek new display and case

Tactile feel of hard buttons is greatly improved

Nicer LCD screen

I hear NO noise from the charger power supply or base: I think the high pitch noise reported is the typical whine of the display when it is on: more noticeable than the T2

Dealing with macros that have IR and RF are a real pain.

I can not get my backlight to turn off. It is set properly in the software, the display shuts off after the time out period, but the buttons stay lit no matter what.

Any ideas?
