I will trouble shoot with a blink emitter, test emitter
or digital camera(cell camera works too) will look for
a blink/flash at the device...usually first thing I check
when a device wont respond.

I havent had any RP units lose a port yet but have had
an occasional emitter not work...usually due to wrong
polarity wiring, pinched in a case(we try to bury emitters
inside) or neglect on installation....pulled to tight
and broke a wire.

I have only had a few bad out of the box emitters in 15
or so years

It was a mini to mini into a B&K CT-600. We had some power issues so I had to reset and reload the B&K piece, in the meantime the port went bad. I was trying to get ready for a party and this was the CT that was controllin the main zone.

Worst part was this area controlled by a RK-3 was working fine the day before, but the owner liked the Curaco over the red silk. So I had to redesign the touchpanel. Then my day just went all to hell. I had a seperate IR set up for troubleshooting/testing, which confirmed the issue.Swapped out the RP-6 and viola, shit worked out. Client had a good party, I had to make an appearance, but that hold up was the difference between a 60% running system and 90+% running system which I was hoping for. I had no chance in hell of having this system up and running 100% in the time alloted.

I did loose the better part of half a day due to this...
When good enough is not good enough.
