I have a client that we installed a T2C for back in May. He was having problems that it would not wake up all the time. I had to reset it by turning the on-off switch on the inside to reset it. Kept happening, so I exchanged it for a brand new T2C. Now after about 5 weeks since I swapped it, he is having the same problem. Anyone else come across this problem?

I had the same issue with my first T2C, but it had other problems as well, so it was sent back. It was a Version 1, before the mercury switch was removed.

I have had the same problem on about 65% of our T-2Cs. One client has four and all of them have needed a power reboot. A few have just outright turned white on the LCD, showing no graphics and not responding to any hard buttons. I have returned six just this year for this issue, but RTI has no record of the issue from our returns or anybody else. Call RTI if anyone else has the issue since they don't seem to be aware of it.

I'll add the following reoccurring issues:

1. Not reliably "mating" with the charger. Have a VERY high end client out of town. Just put 3 of these in the house, and one is completely DEAD Battery after a few days, because of the base not connecting properly.

2. "rigid" buttons. I have had 2 or 3 of the T2Cs with a button that WILL work, but requires an extra firm push. As if the button has seized.

I'm a big supporter of RTI...and I think selling these remotes based on their power and performance is EASY at the price....
However, for the price ($999+ in Canada) the build quality MUST be top-notch.
The T2+ remotes which were only a little less, have been VERY reliable for us overall. We have had way fewer issues with those remotes.

Plus, they don't have the ball bearing tilt sensor.... which again, makes the remote feel cheap to several of my "money no object" clients.

I'd venture that most of us here who are selling these remotes would have no problem selling them for 200.00 more if it meant getting the build quality up.

However, my cell phone is a pretty powerful device, has an LCD, has a "transmitter", memory, buttons etc... and has been through the "ringer" of abuse....but it still feels solid..... and its ALOT less than 999.00

Arent they ALL going to be using the ball switch eventually? Why would they make one model Rohs compliant, and not the other?
No, I wont install your plasma with an orange extension cord hanging down the wall.

RTI has a bunch of McIntosh codes in their library, if your model is not listed, McIntosh uses pretty much the same IR codes from model to model so one of them has got to work.

RTI is a great company to deal with. Dont be afraid to call them and let them know how you feel. I am assuming that you have talked to tech support about your issues. Have they given you any ideas or indication on what it might be?

They have never heard of the problem. I thionk that I will upgrade them to a T3 for free even if I don't like it as much. No way I can take them down to a T2+.

I find it comical that everyone seems hell bent on bashing URC when RTI seems to have more than its fair share of QC issues of late. Issues with M2's, T3's rebooting, the tilt switches, bad RM433's and I'm sure there is more.

I have installed probably 30 times the number of URC gear and had twice the defects on RTI. Just an observation from my experiences.

I think URC has had its issues, and the fact they were all over ebay ticked some dealers off.

That being said, I think they've had some success as of late, changed their online policy, and made some nice new products.

Wow, I have few T2c out there that are running strong so far. My phone is off and I am knocking on wood as I say this.

I did have one port on a RP-6 go bad on me on Friday, that was a nightmare to troubleshoot. But for the amount of product I put in the field the amount of product I have go bad is pretty small. It all is a pain in the ass, but the support and the turnaround time is usually very reasonable.

I will trouble shoot with a blink emitter, test emitter or digital camera(cell camera works too) will look for a blink/flash at the device...usually first thing I check when a device wont respond.

I havent had any RP units lose a port yet but have had an occasional emitter not work...usually due to wrong polarity wiring, pinched in a case(we try to bury emitters inside) or neglect on installation....pulled to tight and broke a wire.

I have only had a few bad out of the box emitters in 15 or so years
