It's ir learning capability is frustrating.....i've never had this much problem with a remote....i personally have a crestron 1550c...i acually almost like the t2 better because it's smaller and quicker to go through pages....the 1550c is better for electronically challenged people.....i also think the denon rc8000 is this biggest P.O.S (just my opinion)....any hints on learning these codes..that actually work after there learned?....(new batteries sometimes help)...thanx....Robert...custom a/v tech

My first experiences with IR learning on the T2 were frustrating as well, but I have changed my opinion.

Once I got the hang of the alignment process and being really carefull about not moving either remote after aligning I starting gettting good learns. Further, the T2's ability to manipulate the repeats, sustain, etc... has allowed me to learn/program functions that I couldn't do with my RC5000.

In short, I think the T2 is more a pain to learn with than other remotes, but the results are worth it.

Since I sell these remotes, I have most of them to demo and have had a chance to live with them awhile. I found the T2 was not that difficult when you follow the instructions carefully, but it does take work to set it up that why it is often worth using a professional installer so you don't end up frustrated.

I have a whole gang of remotes sitting next to each other and guess what I always reach for the T2, just because it is balanced and comfortable. I do think it is pricey but I have not found a real competitor to this remote yet.

Etronixs.com has a great package deal. I also think they are the ONLY one's authroized for the RTI remtoes on the internet. I saw there is someone else selling the remotes also, but the warranty may be void not sure. You may call RTI @ 612-253-3100 ask for Dan or Dave.. I think thats his name. Very helpful people.

We are the other folks out there, www.homeautomationnet.com and we always have plenty of T2's in stock for immediate shipment. We are offering RTI products with RTI’s full knowledge and consent while they develop their Internet strategy. All RTI's products are covered by their one-year parts and labor warranty, the same one you get with the other Internet retailer. Dave Palmer and the other folks at RTI are great guys to work with I encourage anyone interested in buying this great product to give him a call to verify any questions about our warranty status. I have never heard a bad story about the support that they have given my customers, they are a class act, and offer fantastic product support.

What everyone must realize when buying on the Internet at a discount is that you are not getting the value-added service of a custom installer to set this up for you. It is a great and rewarding product but as this thread started out it can be frustrating if you do not have the skill or patience to properly set the T2 and it's related products up. I am also sure that RTI does not want to spend countless hours on the phone holding your hand. So by all means if you are not sure about your ability to use the Theater Touch Designer software , RTI has a list of installers on their site that can help you obtain a T2 set up just for your system, at the very least download the free software and try it out first.

Just needs a more reliable RF receiver. Other than that, I love it. You have to remeber, it is still pretty new and it will only get better. I have not figured out the reason for the * key in the bottom left corner. I am using it as a shortcut to the "lighting, X-10 menu" but I am not sure what they designed it for. Also, why have 2 enter buttons, 1 on the bottom right and 1 as the select button that I am sure everyone uses as an enter button.

Frenchie,

Having an engineering background my guess is the * button along with enter was put there as a matter of economics, the touchpad looks suspiciously like a standard phone design that a manufacturer could buy a good price versus having a custom one manufactured just for the T2. The * is even in the right place. They could have blanked these off but I am happy they didn’t. As you have found there is always some use for the extra buttons. The * would also make a great jump button.

I'm using the * on each device for either "Display" or "Status". Also, for my XBR400 it brings up Twin View when I press and hold. Nice to have a hard button for these functions.

I use the Enter button for selecting all the right Inputs for the currently selected device(s).

Where did this Bill Guy come from and who invited him?

If I am reading this right on the bottom of all of RemoteCentral's web-pages is states:

"Please note: unsolicited commercial advertisements are not permitted on this forum."

I can start adding all of my url's to my messages and try to get business also. This is not the marketplace forum.

Now, if a visitor or regular poster supplies a html link to a site, for reference or other information I belive that's ok. But you don't see any of us trying to get business by adding our links. We are all here to help each other out.

I am sorry you are offended, I am trying to help folks out, both technically and also by saving them lots of money on their equipment. And judging by the dozens of T2's and related equipment I have sold people from this site they don't mind finding good deals. And by the way who am I? Well my bio is not bad, I have about 15 years experience designing processing and control systems at Cape Canaveral for the space industry and I am not a dummy when it comes to home theater or home control systems.

Is this forum by special invitation? I am more than happy to play by the rules.

I will do my best, from now on not list my URL in the text when referring to my site, but I only did it when I was replying to a thread about who had the best deal on T2’s. The Etronix name was mentioned in the text prior to me jumping in and the fact is I am living on much tighter margin then they are, not to put them down in any way.

Again I don’t mean to offend anyone, If I have any unhappy customers out there I would like to hear about it.

Bill, Last question.

Are you a approved internet RTI e-tailor?
Has RTI approved your company with On-line sales?
I am looking to purchase a new remote but want to deal with a company that has full support from the manufactor.

Let me say this loud and clear to all contemplating a T2 purchase. Until RTI has an internet policy in place, you will get absolutly the SAME warranty and manufacturers support when you buy from homeautomationnet or Etronix, we are both good and reputable dealers operating with RTI's full knowledge. I can make this pledge because RTI made this promise to me and they are a class organization that stands behind thier products. RTI reads reviews this site to gain feedback on thier product and if they had any problem with homeautomationnet's business practices believe me they could cut of my supply of thier products in a heartbeat.

Thanks
Bill

I don't know if that where it will go but let's hope not. We will all loose, can you imagine having to pay for the time of a custom installer to come out to set this up for you. Your $650 remote just crept up towards $1000. Well if it does at least I have mine.
