Hey B, i saved that file and put in in my command library but for some reason, it didnt work the on and off?? i htink i saved it right b/c i can select a remote an dgo into library an dchoose marantzdv4001 discretes and it will come up as power on, power off!!

In regards to discretes, i did some standalone buttons IR only and tried everything again. the dv7600 works for on and off, off smetimes is a little touchy.

Well I learned these from an older RC1400, I will try to relearn them today onsite where I have a new one, and a DV6001 to test with.

The older DVD player Discrete ON & OFF work fine. I do a ton of Marantz/RTI and I have found the new series of Marantz are VERY sensitive to IR. I have found I need to use low power emitters and still have to work on the placement of them carefully. Your codes are probably fine, switch to standalone mode and check them. I'll bet it is the emitter placement. Good luck.

Thats one thing I also was going to mention, but rather that the RP1 with a block I've had to adjust the pot on the block UP for several things to work. I had to relearn the commands for the dv4001 though from a NEW rc1400 for the discrete codes. They might be the same but they worked perfectly where as the ones in the RTI library for 2005+ didnt'. I had to do the same again today on a dv6001 and t4 with RP6. Worked great after I relearned the commands and turned up the pot a tad. I am using Elan's IR emitters.

I converted the codes from the spreadsheet I posted earlier in this thread, the codes shown below are with repeats set to 3, I've tested them a couple times and they will work. I would revisit what Robert posted above though-I've also noticed the sensitivity being a bit high. You should try everything out in stand alone just to rule out the programming and codes being the problem then if everything works good in stand alone it should be fairly easy to isolate any equipment issues.

Hey guys

You're dealing with two very frustrating things....RTI IR Library and the Marantz DV 4001. For those of you who haven't installed that exact model (yes, up to this point nearly all Marantz dvd players were the same), then many of your fix ideas won't work. Play will not turn the player on. Hitting eject on every dvd player in the world turns the player on and ejects the disc, except for this one....it only works if the unit is already on. Power commands are a mess....with an infared system it is brutal. The player also take blu-ray type delays to load the disc. This is without a doubt the crappiest Marantz dvd player I've ever dealt with in ten years, and I didn't like the ones that worked.
The last one I dealt with went like this:

-Instead of using the infared receiver on the unit (which was probably made in a China toy factory), use the RC 5 jack (hopefully you are using a Marantz receiver) making sure to switch that internal/external switch on the back

-Power On won't work, so use Power Off command, small delay, then Power Toggle to manufacture a discrete On

-Use normal Power Off

-Then try to explain to the homeowner why the $350 standard dvd player that your salesman sold on "quality" doesn't work as well as their Cyberhome they got free when they opened a checking account

Can you tell I'm sick of dealing with this dvd player? Marantz told me last week they were working on a firmware upgrade, but I think that was to placate me. I've recommended to my sales staff not to sell the unit.

Did you check to see if the IR switch behind the Marantz dv 4001 is set to external? I also do a lot of RTI and Marantz and never ran into any problems.

Yes the switch is on external. I'm not having problems controlling the dvd player, I'm having problems consistently turning it on. Play does not turn it on, so I don't know what pesci is talking about. Are you sure we're taking about the same DVD player? I'm not talking about other Marantz models, I'm talking about the DV 4001 only. Maybe there are different "runs" on players out there, and we got a messed up batch, I don't know. If you aren't using a IR repeater system the problems aren't there either.
I've been installing Marantz dvd players for almost a decade and this is the first model like this. Marantz has confirmed with me that this is a problem.
In my opinion, Sony is the best dvd player to work with, and has the fewest number of repairs. Plus, having different code set allows you to have more than one in a system without having IR routing. I have two Marantz AV receivers at home and love them both. I honestly wouldn't swap my $90 Sony single disc for the top end Marantz DVD player.

You either have a bad one or there is something wrong with the install. I have a couple dozen 4001's out there with no problems. There are discrete powers and Play turns them on. Try turning the port up or connecting block up.

While I agree that I like Sony for a cheap dvd, they do not compare to Marantz DVD players.

Are you using a RP1 or RP6? connecting block? emitters?

How many have you had trouble with? It is possible you got a bad one or maybe a bad batch, but I know for a fact these have discretes and play works to turn on so lets try to solve the problem.
