I just returned the Denon AKTIS remote w/ RF base station, and am considering getting the T2 instead. I bought the AKTIS for its RF capability (unlike the Pronto), however after spending over $600 for this, I found out that I'd still have to spend more for a Denon Re-transmitter. The re-transmitter unit connects to the RF base, and has 4 ports for IR emitters. This is important since I have at least eight equipment that need to have emitters attached to them. This will cost at least another $200. Besides, the AKTIS doesn't have software download capability yet. My question to you all with the T2 is, would I have the same issue with the Denon? Would I have to buy another equipment such as a Re-transtter with IR out ports or a Control Block to allow for emitters connection? I would appreciate any info on this to make a decision on the T2.

Well, IR emitters can plug right into the RF unit. There's 6 zones. Apparantly each output can support up to 4 emitters without an amplified connecting block.

How can I connect up to 4 emitters into one zone? Do I need to purchase accessories besides the IRF and emitters?

Also, can the six zones work as one zone? The one zone is where I have all my equipment, which is hidden in a closet.

Heinz: Not sure on this one... probably a splitter, though they should be inexpensive.

Joe: Yes. When you select RF output for a particular code (as opposed to using IR from the remote) you can select however many zones you want it to work on. 1, 2 & 6 for example. The default is "all".

Joe,
Each individual code can be programmed individually to work as IR, RF or work as the system "default". The system default can be set as can each individual code with a good deal of liberty.

The RF settings can be set to have the IR (or RS-232 code eventually) be broadcast from any combination of the IRF-6 ports. That is, you can send it to a specific port, multiple ports or all the ports. Again, this could be different for each code and different for the system default. This is nice in the case of an IR conflict and also for the newer hybrid computer/stereo components which require CPU time to decipher IR (thus I have placed mine on a seperate dedicated port, so as to not require the equipment to slow down to process redundant IR).

As I see it (from a programming standpoint) this would have less to do with how many zones you have or how they are configured, than it would with the type of "feedback" you are looking to include in your system. That is, if you want power or video sensors, they need to be configured slightly different. For example, the programming interface includes options to only send the IR signal if the unit is on. This feedback is useful when attempting to keep all of your remotes sync'd up. So what sync'ing equipment you want to use will likely have more to do with the port configurations on the IRF-6 than the architecture of your theater zones.

Also note, the RS-232 module interface and how it connects is not yet clear to me.

Best, Cliff
