Function Buttons and A/V Receiver Input Switch

First, I know there are a couple threads here that talk about the same subject but they still do not answer the question. I would like to

I recently bought an AV2000 to support all new Sony components in my home theater. I am having trouble programming the remote to support the A/V receiver input select. For me this is a serious problem. The remote is supposed to feel like a custom interface to my components but it does not.

The features page of this product on this website explain that:

"System function buttons can have a signal assigned to them. When you press VCR 1 you can have it it switch itself to VCR 1 mode, and set the amp to VCR 1 (this feature is off by default). Plus, there's a bonus: if you quickly press the function button it only switches the remote to the new component but doesn't send out the assigned signal. To switch the amp you have to "firmly" press the button. "

That is exactally what I want to do and yes, the feature seems to be turned off by default. I am aware of the instructions on page 25 that describe how to "learn" the input select as part of pressing the function button. This does not work because I get "NG" flashing when I try to learn the signal.

I think that I cannot "learn" the signal from my original remote because its signal includes turning the appropriate components on and chosing the appropriate TV and A/V inputs. All I want is the single A/V input select switch.

Finally, my question is: The text from the feature page says this is off by default. Is there any way to turn this off through the remote without "learning" the signal? Also, if "learning" is the only way, is there a way to learn the signal from my original or other remote?

I hope I have adequately described the problem and I will greatly appreciate responses.

The signal must be learned. And yes, it can't learn the signal from the original remote as it includes other commands such as TV power on, change TV input etc.

However, the AV2000 has input switching signals built-in to the AMP mode that ONLY switch the receiver's inputs. My solution was to program these to my receiver's learning remote, then back to the AV2000. :-)

I had a similar problem. I had to delete one of the programed buttons like 'pip'in order to learn another function.I also recieved the "NG" signal.

It also depends on what remote you are learning from. I could not get the RM-AV2000 to learning input switching from the remote that comes with the STR-DA50ES. According to Sony, the RM-AV2000 has problems learning from some newer remotes.

Yes, I took Daniel's advice and was able to program another remote with the input select switch signal and then program the AV2000 remote's input select button with that command. Now the remote works just the way I want it to and the way I think it should work out of the box. Sony should take notice to its customers experiences here. I would not have kept the remote if it did not work the way it says it can on Page 25 of the manual.

Thanks Daniel

I tried your altenate solution for the problem. But my RMAV2000 input selection signals on "AMP" put out the same signal as teh origianl remote (Power and amp input). So it does not do any good to learn these to a second remote. The "AMP" is set to a Sony Reciever on the RMAV2000. The reciever is a Sony 825. I just want to make the remote change the reciever input to TV, when I change the remote to TV. What I am doing wrong?

Thanks
Kevin
