The remote U306 came with my sony HT-DDW740 receiver. The manual says that it will control other components (i.e. DVD, TV, VCR, etc...), and it has buttons on it to do so, but nowhere does it tell you how to input codes for the devices or otherwise program it! Sony's website is useless for this info. Any help?

If there's no instructions or code list, then it'll only work Sony branded equipment.

I have bought a Sony reciever and my remote RM-U306 Dosent control the reciever. In the manual it says hold down USE MODE and AV1 or AV2 Button But there is only a AV button nothing else whar buttons must be pressed to get the remote to control the reciever.
It does control the TV and DVD player But Only turns off the reciever nothing else. Dosent even turn it ON.!!!

Per Sony,
Description: The Receiver Does Not Respond To The Supplied RM PP411 Or RM 306 Remote Control.
Solution: IMPORTANT: This solution only applies to receiver models HT DDW740, HT DDW840, STR DE485, and STR DE685.
If the receiver does not respond to the supplied RM PP411 or RM 306 remote control, the remote control command mode may need to be set up on the receiver.
To set up the remote control command code on the receiver, please follow the steps below.
On the front of the receiver, push the SET UP button. Press the left (<) or right (>) directional button until the display on the front of the receiver reads C.MODE.AV1 or C.MODE.AV2. NOTES:
If C.MODE.AV2 is displayed, the receiver is setup properly. If C.MODE.AV1 is displayed, follow step 3 below to change the code.
On the Jog DialTM control, press the plus(+) or minus(-) button until C.MODE.AV2 shows in the display. NOTE: Depending on the receiver, the plus(+) or minus(-) buttons may not be available. Instead, press the top or bottom of the Jog DialTM control. Please refer to the Operating Instructions of the receiver for additional information about the Jog DialTM control
