This is my first attempt with a programable remote (RM-AV3100) and it's not going very well. I did a search of the forums and didn't find anything addressing my particular problem. My Tivo/satellite receiver is a Sony (model SAT-T60), and should be controlled with the 3100 right out of the box, but it doesn't. I put in different Sony codes for for DVR, but nothing works. If I use the "STB" hard button, I can control the basic features of the Tivo, but important functions ( advance, list ) don't work. I tried to teach the 3100 from the Tivo remote (model RM-Y809) but that didn't work either. If I'm having this much trouble trying to get a Sony component to work, how will I ever get my receiver/amp (Yamaha RX-V2400) to work? On the bright side, I was able to get the 3100 to turn my Pioneer 930HD TV on and off, but that's of little consequence because I use the amp for volume, and the Tivo to change channels. Any help would be appreciated, otherwise I give up, and back to the store it goes.....

The sony tivo code preset is for Stand Alone sony tivos, which uses a different codeset then the T60. The T60 being the only model of dtivo sony ever made, they don't seem to feel its worth a special code of its own. Especially since the standard sony Sat code will control a good portion of the T60. There shouldn't be any reason why you can't teach the remaining commands. Try try again.

Thanks for the info. I seem to be getting the hang of it. I ended up programing the hard "STB" button for the Tivo functions. No matter what I tried ( using the tips I found on this site), the 3100 refuses to accept the "record" function of the Tivo remote to the proper record LCD button. My work around was simple, I just used one of the "label" keys at the bottom of the display, and renamed it"record". My next issue is trying to change the function display of a key (page 24 in the manual), I programed the "S.Index" LCD key for the Tivo function of "advance", I would like to change the display to the triangle with the bar as in the picture on page 110. I follow the instructions, but I can't seem to be able to cycle through the different lables. I'll keep trying, then it's on to get the amp power button to turn off my whole system. Thanks again!!

Update: I found Ron Aronsons' post for 3100 newbies about changing the label for the LCD key:

"TO CHANGE WHAT IS ON A SQUARE BUTTON: (you can only scroll through what is already there, you cannot label them like the label buttons, and you have to do it before you learn a command on it-if you have learned a command on it, press and hold DEL/press the button, and the command will be deleted): When in the learn mode, press and hold either the hard component button or the device label in the upper right hand corner next to the power button, then press the key repeatedly until the label you want appears. Release the component button, it will flash, and then you are ready to learn." ( [Link: remotecentral.com] )

From the above info I figured out what I was doing wrong.

Did the 3100 except the recond comand on the rec button? If so, will it not ececute the command when you press rec? If that was the problem, you have to hold the REC button down for 1-2 seconds before it will send out the command. You can chage that to 0 seconds, I think it is on page 86. Adjusting beam interval

cb1: I tried it again, and you're right, it's just a matter of holding the button a little longer. Now I can free up the other button I programed for record and make it a channel short cut. Thanks to everyone for the help.
