I recently purchased a new Sony DVD recorder (Model #RDR-VX555). While going through the menu I "accidently" changed from DVD-3 (default) to DVD-1. Now my remote will not communicate with the recorder so I cannot switch back. The procedure described in the manual to restore to factory settings does not work. Anybody have a similar problem or know the solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunatey my remote does not have that switch on it (model #RMT-D240A). That would have been real handy. Thanks for the reply.

This procedure was posted by George Fisher in this thread, and may help you. You may also have to try "enter" and button 3.

Guy, for your reference and for anyone else with this
problem.
Sony have been very helpful. Turn on the DVD and your
TV. Press "enter" and button 1 for 5 seconds and it will
take you into Set Up. It did! Hurrah! If pressing "enter"
and 1 does not work, try "enter and 2.
I'm back in business. Thanks for your help.

It's good to see people who know how to search, and even better to see that you were helped by one of my posts.

HELP ! ! !

I also have a Sony RDR-VX555.
The remote stopped working, so I figured the batteries went bad and replaced them. After replacing the batteries, the remote still didn't work. This is bad I thought, and tried to troubleshoot the issue. With all else failing, I tried to program the remote with my Direct TV television remote, using the Sony code from the remote. The Direct TV remote works the basic functions of the Sony RDRVX555 player. I guessed that the remote went bad, soooooo I purchased a new remote, figuring the original was bad, but to no avail, as the replacement remote doesnt work either. The Direct TV remote does work the basic functions. HELP !

cprworks: You seem to have come across the correct thread for your problem - so have you tried the procedure in post #4? And also, what "new remote" did you purchase?

Daniel,
Yes, I didn try the thread in #4. In speaking with Sony tech. support, they advised to do the same. I additionally tried enter 1, enter 2, and enter 3 with no avail, as they also stated that would be the set-up for DVD1, DVD2, or DVD3. The remote that I have now is RMT-D240A, which was purchased new, with new batteries installed. In speaking with Sony tech. support, they advised that is the correct remote. After troubleshooting with them on the phone, without success, they advised to send the DVD player unit in for repairs.

Hey, now it even gets better.
After killing the power and resetting the VCR, it goes to DVD3, which I guess is the "Blue screen of death" when it goes to VCR remotes, as I cant get the remote to get back to either DVD1 or DVD2, due to the fact that I cant get back to the system menu.
HELP !!!!!!!!!!
