my digital cable remote turns the tv and cable off with the system off button. Is there a way I can program that in my rm-av3000 remote?

If it is just one system off button, teach it to the 3000.

A little more info in the subject would be nice also.

I did the learn process with the digital cable box remote system off button on the rm-av3000, but when i turn the power off button on the rm-av3000(cable mode) it just turns the cable box off. When I first used the rm-av3000, it turned the tv off also when i turn the cable box off, which i liked, but now it just turns the cable box off so i have to push the tv button on the rm-av3000 and turn the tv off. Is there a way I can program the rm-av3000 to turn off the cable box and tv by just pushing the power off button on cable screen.

1. If it used to turn the tv and cable box off, and now it doesn’t, what caused it to change? Did you program something else, change tv’s, etc?

2. When you learn the command from the cable box remote, are you holding the button down until the 3000 beeps?

3. What brand tv, and what brand and model number of cable box?

I did program my sony strde995 receiver remote to the rm-av3000 with the learn button just because I left the receiver in the av2 mode. I also did the step on deleting system 1 on the rm-av3000 and maybe that did it. I guess I can try to remove the batteries and start over. What do you think? I have a sony projection tv and a motorola digital cable box. not sure what model it is since i'm not home.

The receiver should not have any effect on your tv/cable box turn-off problem. Same thing with System Control 1, since you said you had programmed a key on the cable box screen., so back to the original problem.

I”ll repeat this advice from my previous reply: When you learn the command from the cable box remote, are you holding the button down until the 3000 beeps? If the cable box remote turns both tv and cable box off with a single key press, then this key should be able to be learned on the 3000, evein if it is composed of two different commands.

Just removing the batteries will not make you start over unless you forget the 20 second rule, and that is not always a cause of losing settings, and I wouldn’t bother to do a reset because that is not your problem.

Yes, i'm holding the button down until it beeps, but it still just turns off the cable box only. The 3000 should learn the power off button since it turns both the cable box/tv when i do the learning process, but with no luck.

Your next step is to make a micro-macro, which is where you teach more than one command to a single key.

Two commands is easy, since the 3000 has a long learning time.

Hold both remotes (cable box and tv) opposite the 3000, and quickly press the power buttons on each. Of course, this won't be a discrete command, but you could use the same button to turn both devices on or off.

As to why the command from the cable box remote can't be learned, I cannot explain that.
