I have a Toshiba TN55X81 HD ready(4:3) TV. Will one of these units work beter with this TV than the other? If so, why?

I have the DTS-3000 STB along with a Toshiba 40H80 TV. Although this would be my first and only STB I will offer my comments about it. The Toshiba STB doesn’t allow for you to change Picture Modes which is important for me since my TV locks in “Full” mode when it receives a 1080i signal. The Sony does allow for you to change Picture Modes. This may not be a problem for you but it’s worth mentioning. I find my unit to run a little warm. I think this is due to the fact that it has no internal fan which is turn makes it very quite. The DTS-3000 also only has two antenna inputs and it won’t allow you to assign the same signal for both inputs. The only way to hook up two of the same signal is to enter the menus every time you want to change inputs. This can become a major pain and is probably the biggest nuisance of this STB. In my case, however I made a Pronto Macro to change inputs at a touch of a button. Besides from these inconveniences, I love my DTS-3000. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Andrew, thanks for your reply. When you refer to picture mode are you meaning the shape of the image on a 4:3 screen?
Thanks again!

I’m pretty certain that Picture Modes are only on a 16:9 TV. The different Picture Modes allows a 4:3 Image to be Stretched to fill a 16:9 Screen. These Modes are important to reduce burn-in on your TV with a 4:3 image.

Andrew- Thanks again. I just downlaoded a review of the Sony Sat-HD100, Panasonic TU-HDS20, Toshiba DST-3000 & Mitsubishi SRHD-5. Let me know if you would like a copy of it.

Glad I could help. If you could, please e-mail me those reviews. I probably won’t be changing my STB any time soon since HD over here in NY is not doing so well. Thanks.

I'm currently shopping for an HDTV Sat Receiver. I'd love a copy of those reviews if at all possible.

I too would like a copy of these reviews is possible. I have the Sony HD-100 and do not like at all. I have look at all others and am leaning toward the Toshiba. The Sony is slow(5 seconds channel to channel verses 2 seconds for my RCA sats), the remote is horrible(no tactile feel at all), the fan is noisy, and my TV(was a 57 inch Sony that just got replaced by a Mitz 65(still up in the air on my opinion of this set)goes thru all these convulsions when going to channel 199 or 509(both HD)with all kind of outer limits type stuff on my screen as the receiver locks into HD. So far what I have seen in the stores, the Toshiba is the leader(similar to the Mitz but a better remote).

David, I would really like a copy of those reviews since I am in the process of trying to buy a STB. I say trying to buy becasue there is so many varying opinions out there. I would also be curious to hear which one you ended up buying and why. Thanks for all your help. Jason

David, I would also like a copy of those reviews, I'm seriously thinking about the Toshiba dst3000. I have a Mits. HDTV 46809 and I'm concerned about the HV connection since the Toshiba dts3000 only has the 3 component hookup. Thanks Vinny

I bought the Toshiba. Just finished the installation and it looks great so far.

Paid $450 plus $20 freight from Video Only in San Mateo,Ca. 650-578-1212.

They shipped it UPS ground and it took about 5 days to get to Texas.
