I wanted to start a new thread for those of you who rely only on terrestrial broadcasting for receiving television programs in the Ontario and Western New York region. There will be so much change coming in 2015.

First, regarding the CBC, as you know there will be changes to its news department as a result of cutbacks, (1 500) layoffs and restructuring.  Beginning in September (1) expect a new graphic and music package.  Will the CBC be able to afford chairs for their news readers.  CBC Calgary is the only CBC news program with a sitting anchor.  (2) CBC supper hour newscasts will be reduced by either 30 or 60 minutes.  Shows in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Halifax, Charlottetown, St. John’s and the North will be trimmed to 60 minutes; programs in Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Windsor, Montreal and Fredericton will be cut to 30 minutes.  CBC Toronto news will air 6-7 p.m., forcing Coronation Street to a new timeslot.  (3)  The CBC Morning News will no longer be available over the air in major markets but will remain exclusively on CBC News Network.  The local CBC Radio One Morning show will be televised in its place 6-7 a.m.  (4)  Local hourly news updates are planned on the main CBC network.

With the now approved merger between LIN Media and Media General, more cost cutting coming to WIVB and WNLO.   Beginning Monday, Winging It Buffalo Style(which only received a 0.9 rating share) will be replaced with the Meredith Vieira show on WNLO-23.   WIVB will air Inside Edition and Jeopardy at 4 & 4.30.

The new company now know as Media General has suffered a major financial setback during its merger process.  Its flagship station WISH channel 8 Indianapolis lost its CBS affiliation effective January 01, and is now a CW affiliate.  Losing advertising revenue from NFL football has sent its stock down, and all stations have been advised on more cuts.  WISH is still the master hub for many of the company's stations which explains the delays in 'switching' on WIVB and WNLO.

ESPN  is the exclusive broadcaster for this Saturday's NFC Wildcard game (2015-02-03).  If you live state-side and don't have cable or satellite, will you miss the game?

As Keaster posted earlier in another thread, LAFF TV will begin broadcasting locally on WKBW 7-2  (RF 38-4) Buffalo on April 15.                       http://www.laff.com/

As for MOVIES!, the closest affiliate will be WBNX 55-3 (RF 30-5) Akron, Ohio.  It will replace THIS TV on March 27.  MOVIES! can also be seen on WJBK 2-2 Detroit.

BUZZR TV, a 24-hour game show channel will debut later this summer on all 17 of FOX's O&Os.
[Link: broadcastingcable.com]

Decades will debut on May 25 on all of CBS's O&O and Weigel's WDJT-DT and Media General's WBAY-DT (hope for WIVB Buffalo).                      http://www.decades.com/

The Works! (MGM/Titan) doesn't seem to be coming to this area anytime soon.

Are we too saturated with all these multicast channels?

A new half-hour daytime syndicated investigative series, Corrupt Crimes, will debut this fall on Buffalo's WUTV or WNYO. [Link: tvnewscheck.com]

I watch way too much anyhow, so I'm not too concerned with that new car channel coming, and with all the fiddling, still can't pull in that RF17 yet, might be too low powered for my old tuners.

Im all for more sub channels but I'm not exactly sure why WGRZ among other Buffalo broadcasters, change their subs about every year or so, probably a money thing, but it may be a tell tale sign. From a promotional standpoint as to why ota is better than ever before there's lots of choice, but I'm sure it's cutting the advertising pie into smaller pieces.

You can now watch ZUUS country live on the Internet in Canada - the blackout was lifted.

There is a trend of eliminating sportscasts from local newscasts in the U.S.
Beginning this week, WIVB-4  will phase out sports from their 6:00 pm local newscast. KGW-8 in Portland, Oregon will be doing the same with their 11:00 pm newscasts.

You might see an improvement with the quality of the closed captioning you receive on U.S. stations. New Closed Captioning rules take effect on March 16.
(Now only if they could improve the quality of the programming.)
