CTV freezing every few seconds.

I was watching a football game on Channel 57 (City-tv) and it was doing that, so I re-added channel 40 (virtual 57) and the call sign was all in caps (CITYTV) and the problem went away.

I don't watch CFTO so I haven't experienced any problems, but my parents do and I haven't received a phone call yet...

As for cooler weather causing signal loss, I have never experienced that either.

In most cases weather may affect the rf signals, however, mainly when the cold air passes over the warm lake waters and inversions and/or ducting can occur.

Weather fronts, depending if they are sharp have known to cause this rf signal fluctuation too. Depends on the frequency and can vary by channels.

Another item can be changes to reflections and/or multi-path since leaves are now gone.

I am also having similar issues with CFTO in Mississauga for couple of weeks now, others are great, CHCH is always miss and hit for me. It works for few days and then gone for few days.

Re: Citytv becoming CITYTV, the only explanation I have is that they did some kind of 'softwasre upgrade', because after I made the change the cutting out went away.

I use both a Bell and Dish Network HD receiver to watch my antenna channels and if for example 2-3 goes off the air, 2-3 will remain in the guide until I physically remove it. Even though the channel is off the air, the receiver will say that the off-air signal has been lost.

Same goes for a new sub-channel. I have to add it in to 4 receivers--yeah P.I.T.A.

I get the CITYTV part. That happened on my TV a while ago. What I don't get is the channel 40 part...

I thought CITY was channel 44, not 40.

CHCH has applied to return to UHF on the old CKXT Hamilton allotment (channel 15) [Link: services.crtc.gc.ca] (application 2011-1504-8)

I just read the cover letter submitted by CHCH. They state they will broadcast at 132000 watts. They are listening to their customers since the primary reason for going to UHF is because they lost viewers on VHF. Way to go CHCH for listening.

They believe that UHF will better serve their needs. Its great to see a local broadcast station trying to improve their coverage. Maybe OTA is not dead after all.

Getting CH15 approved will be difficult, remember WBNF on Grand Island is a Class A station that gets protection. They will no doubt complain to the FCC. CHCH's signal would have to be well away from Grand Island which means it wont be able to broadcast to Niagara as well. They made a bad decision to go with CH15. They should have applied for CH35 instead. No way they will get approved for 132 KW ERP.

Ok, now I am totally confused. I did not know there was already a station on 15 broadcasting from Grand Island. I thought it was a clear channel since SunTV just vacated it. It must be very weak since I have never picked up this station from North York.

I agree with digitalcable..... why doesnt CHCH try for another frequency if WBNF is already on 15. If 35 is truly unused in this area, then that would have been a great choice and the right strategy.

And then again, why doesnt CHCH stay where they are on VHF11 and simply request to increase their power. If going to 15 is not going to be approved, then why even bother with the application unless they have some other motive. I remain confused.

On another matter, I had to go to work on the morn of the 24th,then i was receiving
CIII Global on UHF 41 rock steady ever since the CDN change over.

When i came home at midnight to view the recorded material from same it appears that I've lost CIII UHF 41. Did something change? Have they moved from that building you guys mentioned back to the CN Tower or is it just a weather glitch?

I am not as panicked as i was in the past ever since I resorted to downloading a little
over a year ago. I can pretty well recover anything that's broadcast now other than the few shows on the CBC [The Nature of Things comes to mind] that don't have world-wide appeal and on TVOntario.

EDIT: It came back while I was shaving etc. between 14:22 and 15:30 today.
Currently 75-81% on the MDP-130s on screen display.
Tropo? Interference? Weather glitch?

Just checked ch 41 CIII at noon today, still solid at 80% on my meter at Yonge & Hwy 7 just north of Toronto. But if they changed to CN Tower it would not affect me since I'm in their rf zone of coverage
