CHCH DTV 11-1 seems to have no sound since Sept 9th. Analog still works ok.

Anybody else see this?

For the 5 minutes I got CHCH last night the sound seems to be okay...

I switched to the feed of my attic antenna (the one that picks up the Canadian channels better than the one from my other thread)

CHCH seems to be a-okay, at least for me :/

Depending on your location, antenna setup, possible high rise blockage, all Buffalo channels can be affected. South part Richmond Hill, I get the NBC signal solidly, same as with ABC but all the rest are spotty since I am blocked by the high rises along Steeles and Yonge.

The odd occassion the others pop in, even Hamilton as weather changes or signals bonce of off buildings. Best place to live along the lake shore with rotor and high gain antenna.

I am at Broadview Danforth, not to far from you.
I am using 2-DB8 rooftop antennas and receive the following stations
2.1 -WGRZ-HD
2.2 -WGRZ-US
2.3 -WGRZ-RT
4.1 WIVB-HD
5.1 -CBLT-DT
7.1 -WKBW-HD
9.1 -CFTO-HD
17.1 -WNED-HD
17.2 -WNED-SD
17.3 -WNED-TH
23.1 -WNLO-HD
25.1 -CBLTF-D
29.1 -WUTV-HD
29.2 - WUTV-SD
41.1 -CIII-DT
44.1 -OMNI 2
49.1 -WNYO-HD
49.2 -WNYO-SD
51.1 -ION
51.2 -QUBO
51.3 -ION LIFE
51.4 -WORSHIP
57.1 -CITY-HD
64.1 -OMNI
66.1 -CKXT-DT

I also own 2 DB8 antennas, but I am currently using them in two different locations to different tuners. I am planning on mounting one outside on the roof after I do some renovations. Would it be that much better for me to combine 2 DB8s? I'm pretty sure I was getting all the channels with just 1 DB8 when I had it mounted outside before.

I'm located at Dufferin & College in Toronto.

If you do decide to combine, remember to do it with two antennas facing the EXACT SAME direction, with the exact same length of cable to the combiner. You're only going to get about 3db signal boost (minus insertion loss) with two antennas, but if you have multipath issues it can help increase directionality

You say "only 3 dB" but keep in mind that 3 dB is double the signal strength and that potentially can help a viewer overcome a problem. However, combining two antennas is always a sticky issue. There is much that can go wrong.

If you do decide to combine, remember to do it with two antennas facing the EXACT SAME direction,

In the St. Catharines area, I see A LOT of houses with two CM4228HD's "stacked" with one facing Toronto--ususally the top and the bottom one facing Buffalo. In a few situations, this is the set up they're replacing their big driectional antenna and rotor for.

I took the reflector, or back BBQ grill-looking part off my 4228HD and get Buffalo, Toronto and Hamilton. CIII and CKXT were the weakest through by Bell HD receiver at 64% (anything below 58 usually doesn't come in) So I added a CATV drop amplifier and it bumped the signal stregnth up to 75%.

I did consider putting two antennas up, with the splitter etc, etc, but this was less work and half the cost. My parents have the same set up.

So far so good...

True. Two antennas on the same coax cable but facing different directions will create multipath. However, if he were to use a separate cable for each antenna then he could mount them facing different directions. Otherwise, yes if they are ganged together on a single coax cable then they need to be facing exactly the same direction in order to obtain more gain over the single unit.

One of the Mississauga TV antenna retailers on Matheson is selling a 2 x 4 bay antenna that is hinged in the middle, so that one 4 bay points at Buffalo and the other at the CN Twr. That means you loose 3dB in both antenna performance and expose yourself to multipath issues. Might work for some.

Regarding 8 bay antenna's facing the SAME direction, I've seen two methods of combining the 2 x 4 bays:

The cheaper antennas use coax and a combiner. This means a 300 ohm to 75 ohm transformer at each 4 bay and the 3 dB combiner to bring them together. I suspect having two matching baluns increases the losses.

The more expensive Channel Master combines the two 4 bays at 300 ohms and uses only one 300 to 75 balun for the output. I can imagine that this is the superior method as there is less loss. Anyone have any experience comparing the above two versions?

How do the 8 bay's compare with a fringe UHF yagi/corner reflector?

Thanks in advance for your observations and opinions.

RF Dude.

Did anybody else have to rescan Global? I went to watch golf on 41-1 and the signal was gone. I checked on the DVR and same thing. For the heck of it I did a rescan and global was there, but on 65-2 not 41-1?

Yeah, Global comes up on 65-1 and is described as DTV instead of CIII at my place. CFTO's signal seems stronger than normal too.

Do you know the (real) analog channel being broadcast for GlobalHD? My media center lost the channel and I can't find it anymore. My TV finds the channel as 65-2.

GlobalHD analog? I thought analog was SD only.

In any case Global Toronto's main transmitter is on UHF channel 41. Digital is actually supposed to be 65-1 remapping to 41-1.

Global is now 65-2 on my set-it appears to be a stronger signal.
