Very mild tropo today (I think it's less tropo and just the really warm temps this weekend) but ION was coming in at 70%! FOX was suddenly at 75%, CTS was at 50%, and WNYB came in at 50%!

Seems to be a more west thing, because I saw nothing exciting from the east.

I got blips on channels 12 from Erie, and 16 from Rochester.

...and 21. Now the only two stations with Channel 21 are PBS in Waterdown and CBS in Colombus Ohio.
And my antenna is NOWHERE near pointing near Waterdown, so could that mean that I was getting Colombus?!

Hmm, could you give us some detailed specs on your antenna, the direction you are facing in, and perhaps a TVFool report?

CITY-DT is weak and I'm in Mississauga, the analog is a bit snowy here (with a seperate attic installation though), so I'm not surprised people further out have issues with it.

Al, I'd bet that your receiver/TV is displaying the contents of its buffer when you change the channel.

You mention snow in your post. Are you watching the analog or the digital channel?

it is probably analog. can you test with other TV? How about the other analog channels? It could be the tuner because it is funny that it clears as soon as you change to the channel. The analos signal is probably as powerfull as it was before so it could be a problem with your tuner. If it was the antenna system that it will not clear for second after you tune in. Very nice weather theses days so I see no other reason. But we need more info probably.

I have been trolling these forums for a while and did some searching today but just can't seem to decide what might be best for me. I live in Clarkson, southwest corner of Mississauga near the lake. I built myself a home made 4 bay antenna which I got 7 HD channels from the CN tower when I tested it in the window in my living room, so I plan to attic mount it and aim directly for the CN tower. My highest priority is CBS for the winter olympics for right now.

I want to plan on a seperate roof mounted antenna on a small mast just to aim for Buffalo stations (since Toronto and Buffalo towers are about 90 degrees apart for me). Has anyone close to my area tried either a 4-bay channel master or an 8-bay aimed for Buffalo? I am totally confused as to which I should get. I would like to get NBC, CBS, ABC and PBS... I don't really care if I get Fox or not because I have not watched it in years. I don't care about analog, just digital. With so many ideas out there I am unsure if I should get a 4bay or 8bay, amped or not! Hoping someone out there has actually done it near me.

I would consider a CH7777 or whatever it's called amp.. to filter FM transmissions because I am about 1km from a few radio towers and am concerned about interference, as well as would like to get great reception quality whenever possible from any stations I want to watch/record directly into an HTPC NTSC tv tuner card. That would probably not be purchased initially unless needed, because it would be hard to authorize with the wife. since I'm using a TV tuner I am not sure I will be able to see a numerical signal meter to tell me the signal strength percentage.

can anyone recommend a standard PCI true dual tv tuner? there do not seem to be too many of them with PCIex1 taking over, but I only have one PCIe tuner in my HTPC and have no more slots for more.

Just thought I would drop my two cents. I live on my sailboat near the humber river on Lake Ontario. I'm using a Shakespeare Antenna([Link: shakespeare-marine.com]) using the build in pre-am. I have it about 40ft above the water. I'm getting 11 Analog and 23 Digital Channels. Using a SANSUI 22" LCD TV.

279 dollars!!!!!!! wow! it better fish a marlin too!!!, lol. well, it is a marine device , they probably know that if you own a boat then you must have the money to spend, lol.

40 ft above water in a marina more likely does not have any obstructions and that helps a lot. the non waterly users like me, lol, tipicaly has a lot of obstructions like trees , buldings or even the terrain itself (hills, mountains etc)

11 Analog is a very good number considering that now the US stations are long gone. welcome to our earthly forum , lol. who knos maybe Daniel has the server on a boat too, lol or floating in the basement, lol.

I know why that boat antenna is so expensive. It's designed to take a pounding. Not from the wind, but from the constant banging of the boat against the waves. Put that antenna on a house rooftop and it will virtually last forever! :-)

Well, check my profile here and my past posts, the 130 is my fave and it combines well with the Divco Fusions.
Now what do you mean by dual? ATSC/NTSC, dual one or the other or a dual tuner[for two stations at once, though that model of Fusion is PCIex1] or if you're handy with networking, though its ATSC only, is the HD Homerun network tuner.
Again the HDHR combines nicely with the MDP-130,FusionHDTV7(a single tuner PCI card) and the Cliff Watson Electronic Program Guide, Record this! and the Playlist Manager Freeware programs.

lots of expert help there.

On 1258163635, BillFromGI :-)

Whoa! Bill, you're catching up to me!

:-)

Edit: Now that CHCH has become a free movie channel..I can't enjoy it because of my previously mentioned being blocked by the structures in the downtown core. I can get the analogue signal but don't look too long lest I go cross-eyed at all the ghosts!

Well, it was Thursday, now Fri morn, Mother Nature must have done a number on me as far as receiving Fox's "Fringe" tonight, while watching strong broadcasts of "Flash Forward" on ABC and "Supernatural" on CW in one room, I walked by the den and saw pixelation and breakups.

Hitting the OSD on the common remote for both, the strength indicator was bouncing wildly between zero and 44%.
Checking the file sizes, "Bones" was its usual 6.5Gigs in size but "Fringe" tonight was barely 5Gigs in size, so something was lost.....I'll see on Saturday during playback....maybe get that proxy going and d/l the player Fox wants people to use for viewing programs online or wait 'till rerun season? Damn! and it was supposed to be a good 'tell us more' ep.

Such are the pitfalls of ditching pay TV! :-( {yeah, i know..i watch too much junk..but its so cool!}

I have a similar problem, but not with digital... I can't get the analog channel at ALL - even "heavy ghosting" is being too kind. But for some reason the digital comes in absolutely perfectly.

And exactly when did CH change their programming plan? I've noticed the abundance of movies being shown; is that really cheaper than licensing US programming?

Th CH change happened about a month and a half ago. Canwest sold CH to Channel Zero, their new format is all day news and movies at night. They have old movies on on Saturdays, and some main stream ones on Sunday. The news end of it is mostly local news to the Golden Horseshoe, but their news during the day is whatever is happening. Time to update the channel listing!

Now I'm irritated and frustrated, the reception of tonight's rerun of "Bones" in Dollhouse's Fox/WUTV timeslot was without flaws, the resulting file size on the den computer/PVR was a little larger even at 6.67Gig...so there must have been some widescreen HD commercials added.
Frustrated because this always seems to happen in Fall/Winter and when "Fringe" is on, then I have to wait for rerun season. I saw though that CTV has streaming but a week behind that of Fox. Yet despite what I know about 'puters, I've had the worst luck with VOIP and streaming, so if I get it off CTV, It'll have to be in the tiny window as both the current systems I have are single core and not enough ooomph! for full screen. On another forum I go to though its been discussed that Rogers does throttle their traffic. In Voip, I can't get ports 5060 or 13000 open and whenever i manually download AV upgrades and other large files, Speed-o-meter reports, along with Windows dialogue, that the d/l starts in the hundreds of kb/s but quickly drops to dialup speeds.

I notice that the signal anomalies that plague my enjoyment of Fringe doesn't seem to happen during bloody sports like the baseball/football telecasts. Nerds don't count I guess. :-(
