Is the cable wire going into your tv for the PIP option then into the cable box or is it direct into the box?

direct into box, tried to split it to take advantage of pip option using all rg6 cable and 1GHZ splittiers still degraded picture-

Just asking cause my sony has a splitter built into the tv for the pip, but when I used it all hell broke loose with the digital cable.
