Does anyone know if their are codes for LightwaveRf home remote controls.

LightwaveRf is the new X10 rival which I am now looking to slowly move over too.

I have tried with the RU960 in learning mode and it failed, im not sure if you have to do anything differnt for learning an RF signal.

My remote works with X10 but I can't remember how I did it.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

You won't be able to learn the LightwaveRF codes because the RU960 cannot learn RF.

However, there is a way you can fool the RU960 by learning IR codes sent via an RF extender such as a powermid, but it is not reliable. You point the RF remote at the RF to IR part of the Powermid, (the part that normally turns the signal from RF to back into IR) and you capture the resultant IR to the Pronto. Set the Pronto to send RF and when you send the code it goes as RF and controls the RF item.

It works for some RF items and from personal experience I know you can do it using HomeEasy RF remote conttrols but I have discovered that although LightwaveRF is made by the same people as HomeEasy, they are not compatible and the RF codes are different. I have also written to them at LightwaveRF to ask if they will release the Hex codes and they say they don't plan to and they don't expect to be compatible with Pronto remotes. (Pity)

Last week I bought 2 LightwaveRF double sockets and a remote hoping to teach my Pronto as I did with HomeEasy, but I could not get my Pronto to capture the code and re-send it as RF. I took them back to B&Q and got a full refund. It is a pity that HomeEasy has been replaced by something not compatible but I figure it's to do with maximising profit by making it incompatible! I already have about 12 HomeEasy sockets and plugs and was slowly changing from the plug-in style to the inbuilt sockets. Now they have stopped making them :o(

There is also a work-around for X10 stuff which involves getting the X10 codes from CodeGen and putting them in the remote and setting the Pronto to send the codes as RF. That is probably what you were thinking of.

Let me know if I can help further.

Thanks for the info, i'll contact LightwaveRF and ask for the Hex codes as well. If they can see that they are losing business because of their stubbornness and bad press on forums like this, they might change their mind. We can live in hope.

I also have a Marmitek 8 in 1 remote that controls X10 but I don't seem to be able to get that to learn the LightwaveRF signal!!

X10 and RF are two different formats. You won't get X10 remotes to learn the LightwaveRF codes. I think your Marmitek only learns IR and the X10 RF is built in.

I didn't really make it clear in my previous posting - no universal/learning remotes can learn RF (Other than the work-round I mentioned on the Prontos). We are very lucky here in the UK that european Prontos can be programmed to send the RF codes to some home automation products. That is because of a sheer coincidence that they all use 433MHz RF in Europe and so does the ProntoNG series (to control the optional Philips IR exetender). So because Prontos can send RF at 433MHz and are fully programmable, some people have worked out the hex codes needed to control the home automation stuff and the Prontos can be used.

I have expereimented with learning the RF from an RF remote, by pointing it at the powermid and getting that to chage it to IR and then learning the IR onto the Pronto. As I said -very hit & miss but works for HomeEasy but not for LightwaveRF.

Good luck with getting the hex codes. I'll write again I think.

Thanks Stoobie youve been a big help. I'm not sure if i'll buy the Powermid if it's only going to be hit and miss.

I'll keep you updated on any progress.

Once again thanks for your help

Did you ever manage to get this to work?
