I just updated to ProntoProEdit NG 2.1.4 and once I manually updated the XP USB driver all was going great. Then I got a pop up message in the software screen that my battery was too low to work with the device. It wasn't low but I figured maybe it was getting hot because I was doing a lot of programming and testing. I let it sit for a few minutes then started again. a short time later... BAM! The software said something like "This device was not supported" and I could not upload or download anymore. My PC sees my TSU7000 when I plug it in but the software says it can't communicate? If I unplug my Pronto and try to upload/download I get the standard message asking me to plug in the device so I know the software sees the remote once it's plugged in but for some reason all of a sudden it doesn't like it. I've read a few threads that are not exactly the same issue but said to uninstall the program, "clean up the registry" and reinstall. How do I "clean up the registry"? Thanks for the help as always!

This is how to clean up the registry.

You may also need to reinstall the USB drivers as suggested here.

Follow the links in the above thread.

I'm lost. I tried searching and maually looking around the registry and I can't find any ProntoProEdit NG or Phillips files.

Am I the only person here have issues like this? I uninstall and reboot but still no luck.

Forget the registry for the moment...

Did you follow my links about reinstalling the USB drivers? If not, please do so. The answer lies there.

I just tried that again. This time I uninstalled the existing driver then reinstalled it. Still no luck. I think the driver is ok. My PC can see the Pronto with no problems and if I try to upload or download without the pronto connected I get a different message then the one I get when it's connected. "Device is not connected properly. Please check the connection". This is so frustrating.

Ensure that you are using a USB port directly on the motherboard. Also, you may want to try a different PC. There may be an issue with the USB port/hub on your motherboard.

It's a newer Dell Laptop. I never had any issues with it before. I also never had any issues with ProntoProEdit before this version. Tomorrow I'll try my PC upstairs but walking upstairs to program my remote because the software took a crap in my laptop doesn't seem like the best fix. UGH!

Does this laptop have any software on it such as Microsoft ActiveSync that allows it to communicate with a PDA? If so, that may just indeed be the problem. Disable it and see if that helps.

That's a great idea but as far as I can see I have nothing like that on here. If that were the case I would think the Pre Edit program never would have worked.

Here's an update. My PC upstairs has the same issue! I didn't see that coming. Now I'm thinking that something might me corrupt in the TSU 7000 configuration? Is there a way to blow out everything on the remote and start with a default config without using PC software?

BREAKTHROUGH!!!!!!

Ok. I tried to update my firmware and it said it could not recover my old configuration. It then said if I clicked on proceed it would overwrite my current configuration so I let it. After I recalibrated my pronto I downloaded my most recent config and all seems fine. My pronto now works on both PC's with no problems.

Thanks for helping me with this Lyndel.

For the record I just had this fault - and it was cured by a hard reset of the Pronto itself.

I can recreate the fault by do a "Test IR" on some DVDO codes - it will send them once or twice then come back with an error (0030). From then on the only cure to the failed communication is a Pronto reset.

Yep. I found that out a few hours after I started playing around with my Pronto again. I was trying some HDMI codes and the exact same thing happened. I should have tried a hard reset 1st thing. I guess I was so used to only having to reset it if it froze.

I should have posted the updated results for the next person. Thanks Andrew.

Past experience has proven that learning via software or using Test IR is not that reliable due to timing issues, etc... and may cause USB driver to stop working or as you have seen, lock up the remote.

The best solution is to keep a small PCF with a few buttons on a page. Download it to the remote, learn buttons, then upload to get the codes.
