The
only way to have the Slingbox control the DVD
player, is via entering the 4-digit version of
the IR codes...the same 4-digit codes that come
with cheap universal remotes.
There is another way. See the forum at
[Link: hifi-remote.com]You can use the software developed for JP1 to create files to give the Slingbox support for new devices.
I don't really understand the process myself (I have never even seen a Slingbox) but I'm sure you can get the help you need in that forum.
Since I have no idea what 4-digit codes are used
with my buffalo, I figured I could have my Pronto
7000 learn all the codes via ProntoPro Edit and
then "somehow" convert them to those 4-digit codes
so that I can finally achieve my goal. I've done
that, and now I am not sure what to do with these
codes now,
If you learned the codes into your 7000 and uploaded the results to a pcf file, you can look at (and copy/paste) the Pronto Hex of the learned signals.
The Jp1 version of the IrTools program plus Decodeir.dll can be used to translate the Pronto Hex into protocol/device/command form. From there any JP1 expert could tell you the 4 digit setup code (if it exists) for OneForAll brand remotes (the "cheap universal remotes" you mentioned). If the 4 digit setup code doesn't exist, the protocol/device/command form is the starting point for using JP1 software to add new support to Slingbox.
Since you'll need expert help anyway after decoding with IrTools, you might as well post the Pronto Hex and let the expert (likely me) use IrTool. If it's easier for you, you can email the pcf to me (see email address in profile) and I'll extract the Pronto Hex and decode. If emailing, it probably helps to include a URL back to this thread. I tend to forget where I talked about what.
For anyone lurking, the fact that I've recently told a few people they can email specific files related to specific threads here does NOT mean I'm giving lurkers blanket permission to start IR discussions with me via email. Please start IR discussions with me in an appropriate online forum and keep those discussions in the forum except where there is a compelling reason (can't attach a pcf file) to use email. I've gotten a bunch of emails recently about IR, in most cases with important context missing. I'm gradually giving partial responses by email. But I would give better responses to the same questions in any of the forums I frequent, plus in a forum there are several other experts who might answer sooner or better.
