I'm interested in knowing how many people have problems with the battery performance with the 3000. For me, I get about a week out of a fresh set of batteries, and the remote starts rebooting when the battery meter reaches half. Also, I have the backlight set to 5 seconds, so that shouldn't be a big factor.

Please reply with a Yes if you are having simular problems, or a No if you are not having problems. And give more detail if you would like. Thanks.

I have two 3000's, one I'm using for testing and the other for everyday use. The one I use for everyday use is still on the factory batteries after 4 weeks of use and the backlight set to 20 seconds. The test model is on its 4th set of batteries after four weeks. This is probably because of the countless downloads I have been doing with it checking out PCF's from other people that have problems, checking my PCF's to see how the latest change is going to look in the acutal remote. I am now using rechargeable batteries in the test remote.

I've gotten 3 weeks out of this set of batteries so far. The battery meter is at about 25% and I've yet to experience any difficulties. The backlight is set at 20 seconds. The 3 weeks did include a final bit of the upload/download frenzy that killed my first set rather quickly. I might add that I've yet to experience any problems with PENG, the simulator, or the remote itself other than the shortcomings noted by all. I spent 6 weeks or so learning PENG and working with it before I purchased the 3000. The pcf loaded the first time and the tsu3k has made it through countless uploads and downloads without a hitch as I've fine tuned the pcf to operate in a way that suits my needs. I'm guessing that 5 or 6 weeks is going to be about the max on batteries for my unit.

My factory batteries lasted in mine for about 3 weeks, although at about the third left mark it started rebooting and can never keep the time, although the date is fine. i put rechargables in it last week, even fresh out of the charger those show they are halfway down and only last 10 days tops.

My batteries from factory lasted about 2 weeks, with of course several uploads and downloads. The strange thing is that the meter reads half full and then the unit starts resetting itself.

very strange...

I'm on the third set in four weeks. I hope the charging dock comes out soon.

Rechargable NiMH AAA batteries work great, are available now, and chances are good they're a lot cheaper than anything Philips will eventually offer.

Unfortunately, they are 1.2 volt batteries instead of 1.5 volt, so as far as the remote is concerned, you start out with 80% of a full charge and it only gets worse from there.

I switched to RayOvac rechargeable alkalines (which I've been having great luck with for years). They are available at Target. I have heard that some people have problems with them with the newer chargers, but my old RayOvac charger works just fine.

Capacity is important.

For those considering NiMH you might want to read this: [Link: mahaenergy.com]

or go here [Link: technick.net] and read Batteries in a Portable World.

In an environment with a discharge curve of 1C NiMH will perform very well. 2C or 3C and NiMH performs poorly compared to NiCD. I don't know the profile of the TSU3000. However, NiCD are very toxic and I won't use them anymore. NiMH have some downsides too, such as shelf life.
