I have a TSU6000 and need to set up with a power supply for the UK. I can see that the docking station needs the power supply to be set to 12V and 400ma but can anybody tell me the polarity needed please. I dont want to set up incorrectly and fry the docking station.

(I've searched the forum but not found answer on polarity)

Can't answer your question directly, but wouldn't it be easier to use something like this: [Link: voltage-converter-transformers.com], and just plug in the standard transformer (wall wart) that came with the dock?

You are correct, that would be the best choice by far, but unfortunately I do not have the original US wall wart available to me.

Transformers are usually not a good idea. They can cause all sorts of problems.

When I replaced mine, I was able to determine the polarity from the original. I think it is in the plastic moulding.

OK, so I did the obvious and called Philips. The answer they gave me was 12V, 500mA and positive inner, negative outer. So, now I connect a power supply (actually the mA is higher, but I understand thats OK) and now I think I have another problem.

According to the diagram the charging LED is a large area at the front of the cradle. I appear to have two small green lights (LEDs), one at either side of that. Is that correct or have I got another problem? (The infamous fuse)

Sorry should have said - now using 500mA / 12v power supply with positive inner after reading here and talking to Philips

Not sure exactly what you're asking, but the 2 small, green LEDs are the charging indicators. These are the only two lights or indicators on the charging base. The 3 possible indications for these lights are:

bright - indicating the remote is charging
flashing - indicates a problem such as overheating
very dim - indicates the base is receiving power but not charging.

If the fuse is blown the lights will be off (not very dim) when the base is plugged in and the remote is not on the base. This could also indicate a bad power supply.

You're right, not clear. So, let me try again.

New power supply (and I checked it with another one I had on another device, both rated at over 400mA. Therefore I hope I've covered off the possibility of a power supply problem.

So I get two green LEDs lit, and they are very small, so that sounds correct. However, they are not very bright at all, and in fact are the same whether I have the TSU6000 in its cradle or not. Based on Jim's response I have power to base but no charging. Any suggestions how I can isolate this further?

Well, in a lit room, seeing the very dim condition is difficult, lights look like they're off. So if you can see them without difficulty, it's probably bright. Maybe the bulbs are just getting old?

Here's another thought. Place the remote on the charger, wait about 5 minutes, without removing the remote, look at the battery meter. If the remote is charging the meter will show fully charged while it's on the dock. Alternatively, you could also let it charge overnight and see if it works.

I've re-read this a couple of times and had the charger set up for a couple of hours. In a dimly lit room the LEDs can be seen but are not bright. If I take the TSU6000 out of the cradle the lights stay on and are the same intensity, which I believe is dim. So, I conclude (possibly wrongly due to lack of experience) that power is getting to the base but nothing is charging.

The battery is now so flat it wont respond to touch or movement, however I found that if I unplugged it and replug it in the TSU6000 will respond for a short while.

Could it be the battery not holding charge, or a problem in the base? Any futher diagnostics suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

When we mean dim we mean **DIM** ie. you really shouldn't be able to see them if there's any light in the room, and even if you could they would be BARELY glowing to the point that you would mistake them for not on at all.

If the lights are on constantly, to a visible level, there would appear to be some other issue and the fuse wouldn't be it. I would check the connector's pins on the station, and I would also put some level of suspicion on the 12v adaptor until you can try another completely different one.

Daniel, thank you for the response. I've tried three power supplies now and all have same effect, all 12v, positive centre. One 300mA, one 500mA(quoted rating by Philips help desk here in Europe) and one 1200mA. Lights are 'dim' and do not change whether I plug TSU6000 into base or not. I looked at the connectors with a magnifying glass and they look ok. I also gently rubbed them with an eraser to clean to no avail.

I wonder if the battery has had it and wont hold a charge?

If you want to purchase a replacement battery, I'd recommend this: [Link: prontowizard.com].

Just a side note that I *have* had some of these AAA Pronto battery packs go dead, however they would still appear to charge, they just wouldn't hold enough for the remote to boot. At this point I would suggest a replacement pack, however without viable signs of life from the station it's no guaranteed fix...
