Just a quick note to let you know that I got one of the guys at workj to replace the fuse for me today and my docking station is now working again.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

He also gave me 7 spare fuses in case I need to do this again myself.

cheers,

Gavin.

Yes, looking at this forum they do seem to blow these. Mine did but only after it had taken out a power transistor and another transistor!! Expensive to fix at over £50 by an independant repair centre near Maidstone (UK), as Philips were absolutly useless with their support!

Mine hasn't died yet. But luckily when I sent my pro for a replacement, they told me to send just the remote. When they sent me my replacement I got a new docking station too, so now I have a spare!

Reviving an old thread here. My RU970 docking station died on me, in the same way as described by others - no lights are showing. I got as far as opening the unit and took it to my local Maplins to see if they could advise what bits might need replaced, but they were less than helpful. I said I'd read online that the problem might be the little thing in the top left, but he utterly dismissed this and frankly I lacked the knowledge to argue the point.

Can anyone offer any useful tips on the most likely scenario? I'll find an electrical repair shop and see if they can help, but I'd like to show up looking not so clueless as I was at Maplins.

Is there any other option I could use to power the RU970 and bypass the docking station?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Replace the fuse as this post discusses. That should be the problem if you have verified power from the adapter.

The fuse is the grey carbon/pencil lead looking piece (small barrel shape) about 1/4 to 3/8 inch long with a wire coming out of each end.

Have the guy in the shop put an Ohmmeter on it. It normally reads less than 50 Ohms if working normally. More than likely, it shows way more than that.

Use the specs from post #7 above to order the Bel fuse. I ordered 10 from digi-key for around $12.00USD.

Thanks, Lyndel. After reading this thread, I said to the guy that it was probably that and he just wasn't having it, but he really wasn't interested, period. I'll print off the relevant posts and go to someone else this time.

Much appreciated.

Another bump on this thread....

I had my docking station for my 5200 die during a storm the other week. Naturally, the remote is now dead because I haven't been able to charge it for a while.

I've taken the base station apart & done some diagnosing. According to my local electronics shop, the fuse is actually good, but some of the other parts have shorted out. The power adapter has metered as good.

So....anyone have a line on where to purchase a repaired/refurbished/new docking station?

Best,
Brad

These are getting to be a real tough find since they're no longer produced. Ebay seldom has them. If you're unwilling to buy new from Philips or Marantz (remember the 5200/9200 dock is the same as a TSU 6000 dock) your best bet is to call places such as bluedo.com and surfremotecontrol.com and see if they have (or know) of anything. It's highly unlikely these will be advertised.

Jim,

The DS for the 5200/9200 and the 6000 are NOT the same. The internal electronics may be identical but the plastic housing is indeed different.

Thanks Lyndel, I'm mistaken, thought I'd read differently. So just to clarify completely, you're saying a 5200 won't fit or work on a 6000 DS?

Having seen both, I'd have a hard time seeing how a 5200 would sit on a 6000 DS due to connector misalignment.

Hi guys

My base station for my TSU 6000 recently stopped working.
Found the guy who I had bought it off had been using and given me a 12v 1amp transformer. This had been running for some time without any problems until a power surge last week.
The surge killed the transformer (put volt meter over the tip with no response)
and has appeared to kill the fuse. The ohm meter is showing no connection.

Does anyone know where to get the fuses from in Melbourne, Australia???
