Well, I won't say it's impossible, since you claim to be doing it. I find it odd, however, since Pronto Edit was written as a DOS shell program... hmmm...

tramahound: some people are using a pronto with MAC. I would also recommend using Tonto on your MAC since it is Java and can run on a Mac without needing PC emulation.

I also tried the Belkin adapter with no luck. However, the Keyspan adapter worked great.
Windows XP Home, Vaio PCG-V505AX, Keyspan USA-19HS USB-Serial, Pronto TS1000/01, COM1.

just as an update, I finally got an Iomega usb-serial adapted to work by going to the device manager, finding the adapter, going to the advanced button and switching from COM4 (which didnt work) to COM1.
Success! :)

You might also try slowing down the baud rate a bit.

FYI I use the keyspan with my Dell laptop running XP Pro

Get this... I connected the Radio Shack USB-Serial adaptor (RS part# 26-183) to my brand new Via laptop. Since the "included floppy" didn't actually come with the RS piece, I jumped on RS's site and downloaded the drivers. Much to my dismay, XP (home) is rejecting them... I'm not talking about the "continue anyway" driver install warning.

How are you folks using this item with XP?

Thanks

Using Pronto RU970, Windows 2000, roline USB Serial Convertor, Com 1, when uploading i will get , uploading, the first two to seven blue bars and then "file is not a valid RC configuration".

Is this the same problem that everyone else is calling the PC not talking to the remote or something else.

I have the tripp lite usb adaptor, and it has been working fine... until I tried to UPLOAD from a TSU6000 with a locked configuration. My laptop gets a blue screen of death, and reboots. I can upload and download with all other prontos except for a pro with locked ccf. Very frustrating at a customers house! Any ideas?
