I'm new to the game, and this is my first attempt to figure things out. Have a 15-1994 and am trying to control an old SONY CDP-C505 CD player, for which the original remote has been (cough, cough) "misplaced."

Anyway, I have tried all the device codes listed for the Sony CD players, and none of them seem to make the thing respond to the POWER button.

So then I left it at CD 0000, and tried all the button codes. While I can find most of the functions I need in this manner, there still doesn't seem to be a EFC that makes the thing toggle the power, let alone a discrete function.

Is this possible? Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did you ever have a remote for the CD player, and if so, was there a POWER button on it? I also have a Sony CD player but it came without a remote, and you are correct, there isn't a POWER button, it appears that the unit was designed to only be turned off at the device. This is not uncommon as many manufacturers also include a power outlet on the back of their receivers so that you can turn on the receiver and the rest of the gear turns on too.

Thanks Rob!

I just found basically the same info over on the Universal Remote forum in a thread from March of this year. Like I said, I lost the remote for this thing, and it never occurred to me that they wouldn't have a POWER button on the remote. Must have always had it plugged in as you indicate and never thought about it. Ahh, old equipment. Only threw it in since I had it laying around. Maybe I shoulda thrown it out.

Whoops. I had one more question that I haven't seen addressed.

I know I can blink back to see what code I have assigned to a device key. Once the device is assigned, is there any way of checking (via blinking) what code is actually assigned to a particular function key?

Sticking with this CD example, it's pretty obvious that they'll assign 560 to the PLAY button, but not so intuitive what's set for CHAN +/- or VOL +/-. I'd like to see what's already there if I could.

There isn't a way to blink back advanced codes, mores the pity. I do have the official UEIC button assignment for CD/0000 in the advanceed code section of my site, but as with most UIEC listings, it's kinda confusing. The standard layout has 'next track' on the up arrow button, 'prev track' on the down arrow, and 'next disc' on SELECT. The numeric buttons are track selects, the trasport keys are what they appear, and I think ENTER is the 10+ button.

Personally, I moved the next & prev track buttons to ch up and down, and I put next disc on the MOVE button, then I manually assigned all the functions that I needed for my receiver on the volume, surround and arrow buttons.

Here's a tip for you if you really want to max out that 15-1994 of yours, the P&P device key is really a CD device key in disguise, so you could put your CD player there and use the real CD button for something else.

I have more tips like that on my site.

Oh yeah, I hooked my Sony CD player up to an X10 module to control the POWER, as I have an X10 Home Automation setup anyway.
