No. The Cinema has the major keys in a glow-in-the- dark plastic that will retain a glow for a few minutes after lights go out, but no internal powered illumination.

In actually use, I've never missed the backlight. The Cinema's keys are each uniquely shaped, logically arranged, and very easy to identify by feel. On the rare occasion that I accidently "ALL LIGHTS OFF" with an X10 code the glow of the keys is enough for me to correnct the problem in the dark.

Buy one. You won't regret it.

If you want a backlit versionof the Cinema 7, get the 15-1994 from Radio Shack. It only costs about $2 more than the C7 and has almost identical internal workings. There are a few device codes missing from the '94 and the volume punch through isn't as good, but it more than makes up for this with an excellent design and button layout.

You can find much more info on both remotes on my site.

Rob -- I'm also finding a disctinct difference between the two remotes in terms of "click-ability" -- e.g. the 15-994 seems to have a much weaker signal and need much clearer "aim" than the Cinema 7 IQ...

Do you have any opinions on this? Is my experience unique? Could I have a lame RS device?

I switched from the C7 to the RS model due to the better layout, but find myself ready to go back to the C7--which I could alwyas use at extremely oblique angles, or bounce off walls...

You've got a lamo, return it and get a new one. The 15-1994 has a killer signal (as does the C7), most of the time I don't even have to point it at my gear and it still works.
