Subject says it all I guess. Why is the manual difficient? It would be nice to have the information that is on these forums in the manual so you don't have to cruise the web to program the thing effectively. Also a web-site that is updated as they add various new amps/tuners/dvd's etc to their list of supported devices.

Maybe I should sent this to one4all instead of boring this forum.

If you've ever done product marketing research, you already know the answer to your own question.

One4All remotes, and everything else sold at a Walmart, are designed to please the masses and not the few. Most people are surely content with the basic functionality they get out of a <$20 remote. If they can't get it to work, they take it back to Walmart. It's pretty evident looking at the resealed packages hanging on the racks at walmart that many do.

What is evident from this and similar sites is that the advanced programming possible is more challenging than many people can comprehend, and actually intimidating to many. I'm sure they realize that giving the masses more information than most of them need would simply overstress their customer support ability trying to explain what all those extra instructions were for.

They DO provide an email address and a web site of their own. It's printed right on the backs of most newer remotes they sell. I'll agree that the web site needs regular (ok, ANY) updating, but I've gotten most of my "advanced" questions answered by emailing them directly.

As technology pursuers, you and I will never be happy with the lack of technical information included with and about the things we pursue. But I don't mind being "ahead" of the class and the masses. I understand the responsibility. I know the patience and tolerance required and I accept. I fight the fight by throwing back to the masses all the hard learned stuff I had to dig and scratch for. It's "too much" work for one man to do, but about right if 20 or more people who benefit from it. I'm delighted there are places like this that allow me to do so.

There has been so much mentioned on this web site about the ONE4ALL remotes, that creating a more complete manual from it would not be too difficult. I'd like to know who would be interested in:

Having this manual, and
Helping create it?

David, Did not the users of this forum create the manual and, is it not the responsibility of OFA to compile this information?

Just us,

Yes, the users of this forum have provided much useful information about ONE4ALL remotes. However, it will take at least one person to compile all the individual bits of information into what could reasonably called a manual.

One4All provided me with a manual. They include a basic manual with most of their remotes. They HAVE compiled most information about their remotes on their own website. They provide the rest (advanced codes) for free if you ask nicely enough. What they haven't done is create a single thorough manual that covers EVERYTHING you might ever need to know about your remote.

That's my point. What was yours?

One thing I asked OFA was if they were planning to release an electronic file containing all of the advanced codes for every device. Would be handy, no? I'm sure it even already exists. However the answer I received that this would most likely never happen. I can't go into detail why, but needless to say I'm a bit disappointed.

Another thing I learned is that OFA is marketing these as simple-to-operate remotes -- that's why the manual is so basic. Sure, you can do a lot more with it... but for the most part they don't tell you since, for first time owners, it would be confusing. I'll ask on the possibility of getting a complete list of customizable functions.
