Hi, I have a Kameleon 8 in 1 that is no longer supported by Radio Shack. When I looked up the codes for my new TV and receiver it says I need to call customer support to add them, which is no longer available. I have the Samsung HL61A750A and the Onkyo TXSR806. If there any other way to update this remote or get the codes I need? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

"Kameleon 8 in 1" doesn't tell me much. For Radio Shack remotes, the 15-xxxx number tells much more.

Some models can have new setup codes added by .wav files. Probably your model can.

The JP1 software can be used (without needing a JP1 cable) to create new setup codes if you have any online data from which to even guess (and test) what IR codes your devices need.

sorry, it is the 15-2138. I'm currently reading the forums there and have some of the programs, just having trouble finding keymaps for them. According to the kameleon website I need code code 2051 for the Samsung TV and 1805 for the Onkyo receiver. Both codes are ones that have to be done with the upgrade.

The data I have for a very large number of setup codes does not include either TV/2051 or RCVR/1805

Both Samsung TV's and Onkyo receivers use very consistent IR codes across a wide range of models. A few advanced functions might be different between models, but the basic functions are the same.

When you try some other setup code for Samsung or Onkyo, what happens? If any functions at all work, that provides a very good starting point for filling in all the missing functions.

The 15-2138 includes setup code TV/0702 which covers most Samsung TV's and RCVR/1298 which covers most Onkyo receivers.
Also try TV/0060

Where did you look that up?

I checked the online 15-2138 code list

and for Samsung and Onkyo it gives the codes I mentioned, plus a few more (that would also be worth trying).

I haven't seen any place you can do model specific lookup (the setup code for your Samsung TV model rather than Samsung TV's in general).

The 15-2138 can have codes added by .wav file, but if standard Samsung and Onkyo codes don't work, I don't know where you could find the data to put in the .wav file.

well, imagine my surprise when I decide to call the support number in one of the other kameleon remots instead of the radio shack brand. At first they couldn't pull my model number up and when I told them it was a radio shack they asked for the catalog number. They asked for my model numbers and email address. They then emailed me a link to a website with the sound file to update my remote! The number in my manual doesn't work, but the number in the other manuals does. If anyone needs to call and update theirs, this is the number: (330)405-8620.

The way it works is like this, you call the (330) 405-8620 number and give them the model number of your remote (they will assume you have a "One For All" remote, so be sure to tell them first if you have a "Radio Shack" remote), then they ask you what equipment you have and if the codes need to be added to your remote, they will prepare a WAV file for you.

They will then email you a link to the WAV file, but the link is custom for you, it isn't a general link that anyone can use.

Some of the UEI web sites have vanished (like kameleon.com and mykameleon.com), but the download site (ie, ezremote.com) is still there if you can find the right URL for your remote. To download WAV files you will first need to register, then they'll send you a serial number via email that you can use to log on.

Here's some of the remote specific URLs that I was able to find:

URC-8305:

URC-8308:

I called (330) 405-8620 on Aug 23, 2010 & asked about upgrades for a Radio Shack 15-2137 (Kameleon 6-in-1).

They told me they no longer support Radio Shack remotes and suggested I contact Radio Shack.

Anyways the 15-2137 wasn't upgradeable remote.
