I am having problems setting the 'video source' on my Atlas DVR/PVR UEI Remote. There are 3 or 4 or the 4 digit codes that get almost everything working (0156, 0154, 0060 etc) but none seem to include the video source functionality. Its all the more frustrating because when I got it a year ago it came out of the box working completely fine, but for whatever reason the codes got changed and now the video source button doesn't work.

When I select the "TV" button, then hit the "video source" button it just jumps back to the "CBL" device button and nothing happens.

TV - Toshiba 27" AF43
Remote - Atlas DVR/PVR 5 device
(Rogers) Scientific Atlanta Cable box.

If it was working before, maybe somehow a macro or a keymove was programmed into that key. Try clearing both out of the video source button.

To clear a keymove:
1. Press and release TV
2. Press and hold SET until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 9 9 4
4. Press "Video Source" TWICE
The remote should blink twice to confirm

To clear a macro:
1. Press and hold SET until the remote blinks twice
2. Type 9 9 5
3. Press and release "Video Source"
4. Press and hold SET until the remote blinks twice

That should restore the original function of that key.

Hmm, no luck. It still just jumps back to the CBL device button as if it were assigned to that device and has nothing to do with the TV.... >:(

It looks like there's something programmed in Video Source by default. You can always reprogram it to TV/Video for your TV. Assuming the setup code you are using is TV/0156, do the following:
1. Press and release TV
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 9 9 4
4. Press and release SETUP
5. Type 0 0 0 5 8
6. Press and release "Video Source"
The remote should blink twice if successful.

I am very interested in this fix. I install home theaters on a regular basis and out of 100 remotes, 1 will have the exact same problem as described in this thread where on "TV" mode the pressing of "Video Source" jumps back to "CBL" and activates the "Video Source" causing the cable box to go into Bypass mode.

How did you come up with the code for the TV/0156 as 0 0 0 5 8.
For example I have had the problem twice with a Samsung which is code 0812.

The math or reasoning as to how to fix this issue would be much appreciated.

Let me in on the Magic!

Thanks,

Wally

For setup code TV/0812 for Samsung, the code you would use is most likely is 00185

You would need to find the advanced codes for the function for the setup code you are using. Some of the older, but common setup codes are listed here. Others, you will have to search through the upgrade files at JP1 remote site for matching or similar models. If you get a Pronto hex code for the function, there's usually a way to convert that to advanced code as well.

Okay well I am a newbie when it comes to these codes can you please provide a link to the "JP1" site, as well as a link to where the "Upgrade files" are located. Also how do I convert a Pronto Hex Code to a useable code?

Thanks again,

Wally

You can learn about JP1 remotes starting here, and then look through the rest of the forum. Basically, you need Remotemaster to program and layout the functions on the remote, IR to upload the programming from Remotemaster to the remote using JP1 cable, and RDF files, and map and image files to define the remotes for Remotemaster and IR. The upgrade files used by Remotemaster are located here. Usually, especially for bigger brand names, you don't have to find the exact model that you are looking for. Generally, larger manufacturers are fairly consistant about the ir signals they use between different model, and you can try similar models to start, and modify using Remotemaster.

You can convert Pronto Hex codes to EFC to put in to the upgrade files for Remotemaster by using IRTool and adding DecodeIR.DLL to the same folder as IRTool. In order to use the information if IRTool to use it as advanced codes on the remote without the JP1 cable to program the remote, though, is a little more difficult. Basically, you need to find a setup code that matches the protocol name and device numbers and then you can use the enter the EFC number as advanced code in the steps I outlined above. This all probably sounds very confusing, but once you start reading about JP1, it might get a little clearer.

Hi Kupakai,

Thanks for all those links...but unfortunately I am unable to find information on my specific TV set.

I am having similar problems with the video source command and would like to reprogram it as you've suggested.

Currently, when I select the "TV" button and then hit the "video source" button it simply jumps back to the "CBL" device button and nothing happens.

TV - Sony KDL-40V5100 (Coded as TV/0810)
Remote - Atlas DVR/PVR 5 device
STB - Scientific Atlanta Cable box

In your case, you need to do this:

1. Press and release TV
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 9 9 4
4. Press and release SETUP
5. Type 1 0 0 5 3
6. Press and release "Video Source"
The remote should blink twice if successful.
(mostly pilfered from Kupakai's other post)

Here are the codes for jumping directly specific inputs without having to cycling through:

tv tuner 11077
video 1 23109
video 2 22085
component 1 22597
component 2 21829
hdmi 1 55877
hdmi 2 54853
hdmi 3 20524
pc 12075

discrete on 43333
discrete off 42309

If you want something really slick, put an "activity" macro on the button of your choice to turn on your TV (using the discretes above) and CBL (and even your receiver if you like) and pick the proper input(s). Repeat for your DVD, etc. You practically end up with a harmony for free ;-)

I have a KDL- 52V4100, and the codes listed above by mdavej all work, but some of the codes are ordered differently. It seems likely that the only difference between a 40V4100 and 52V4100 is screen size. If so, the following differences to mdavej's list may save you some time or confusion if you want to use discrete codes.

component 1 ?
component 2 22597
HDMI 1 21829
HDMI 2 ?
HDMI 3 54853
HDMI 4 20524

My codes are from a friend's S4100. I guess the V4100 has some different inputs like you said. What I don't know is if these work if the inputs are set to be skipped in the tv setup. Maybe you need to enable all inputs before trying the codes.

12587 is another possibility you may want to try.

speaker toggle 39493 is also handy, although I'm not sure if it works on this particular model.
