I have every EFC for the Insignia IS-HC040917 listed below. It is a 600 Watt 6.1 Receiver. My question is, what else do I need to make the upgrade (ie Protocol ID etc.) I will be programming an URC 8910. The actual OFA code is 1893. I'm still waiting for a JP1 cable from Canada so if I can create this upgrade I will use a WAV file for now.

Any help appreciated, Jack

Did you get setup code 1893 installed over the phone from OneForAll?

I can't find any data on Insignia nor setup code 1893.

You need the protocol and the device number to create an upgrade from those EFC number to load via .wav file.

Once you have the JP1 cable, you could decode a learned signal from the original remote to find protocol and device number. Or you could read any upgrades you have installed over the phone.

Without more info, I don't know what you could do with a .wav file. Also, loading any .wav file would erase any upgrades you got over the phone.

I should also point out that you will get a much better and quicker response if you ask JP1 questions in the JP1 forum.

Thank you, Johnsfine and The Robman. Your advice is greatly appreciated. I got the code and EFC's by Emailing OFA. I have not downloaded any thing from them. Now I understand that I'll have to wait for the cable. Robman thanks for the input, I'm pretty sure I registered @ your JP1 forum Yesterday. I think I can handle this now, when the cable arrives.

Thanks, Jack

I just got word that RCVR/1893 uses the NEC1 with devices codes 96 and 157, so give this URC-8910 upgrade a whirl...

Upgrade Code 0 = A7 65 (Tuner/1893) Insignia IS-HC040917
5A 00 F6 DE F9 20 F9 46 77 FF 7F BF 3F DF 5F 9F
1F 6D 97 57 E7 37 B7 ED 67 47 A7 C7 D7 EF 17 27
87 07 FD 7D BD
End

I posted the upgrade so you wouldn't have to wait for the cable to arrive. Why not go ahead and create a WAV file?

@Robman, It worked except for a few things. I'm sure I didn't do it right. I copied:

Upgrade Code 0 = A7 65 (Tuner/1893) Insignia IS-HC040917
5A 00 F6 DE F9 20 F9 46 77 FF 7F BF 3F DF 5F 9F
1F 6D 97 57 E7 37 B7 ED 67 47 A7 C7 D7 EF 17 27
87 07 FD 7D BD
End

And tried to import it into KM. KM said it wasn't formatted right, but did put this in the box:

Upgrade Code 0 = A7 65 (Tuner/1893) Insignia IS-HC040917
5A 00 F6 DE F9 20 F9 46
End

I then went to functions and manually entered the EFC's, went back to Setup and entered everything I could on the left side.

I exported to IR, then exported to WAV. The volume and mute don't work as well as the functions I entered for menu, guide, info, and exit. Some of the functions work better than the OEM remote.

Please tell me where I went wrong, and if you need to look at a file, tell me where to post it and what file to send. Please remember I'm very wet behind the ears. I do have your tutorial 'JP1 - Just How Easy Is It?' printed out for reference.

Thanks for your patience. Jack

Rob gave you the form to go straight to IR.exe, skipping KM

Based on your description of what you did, I don't understand how any of it worked.

I think Rob means Device=96 and Subdevice=157. But I'm not certain.

If you want to use KM, you need to select the NEC1 protocol, and fill in the Device and Sub Device values (as well as filling in EFC numbers on the Functions sheet, as you apparently did).

I did select the NEC1 protocol and device=96 and sub device=157 in KM. Some of my EFC's may be wrong. Any way, I'll try going directly to IR with Robman's code. I had a feeling all along that I wasn't doing it right. Hopefully I'm starting to understand this a little better, I'm also programming an Sony RM AV-3100 and get a bit confused bouncing back and forth. I'll let you know how it comes out later.

Thanks again to both of you. Jack

I misunderstood your description earlier. I thought you hadn't put device and subdevice into KM.

If you did all that you now describe, your upgrade should be as accurate as your list of EFC numbers.

I'll try going directly to IR
with Robman's code.

I though Rob based his on the EFC list you posted, so it wouldn't be any better.

How should I read the above phrase? Volume and Mute don't work at all and those others also don't? Volume and Mute work, but not as well as other functions work?

Assuming Vol and Mute don't work at all, have you tried clearing volume lock so you're sure you're using the vol functions from your upgrade?

While you have a Vol key pressed, look at the LCD. I think it changes from displaying the setup code of the selected device mode to displaying the setup code of the signal being transmitted. If there is volume lock or a KeyMove overriding the upgrade, then the displayed setup code should change while the key is pressed.

Also, do you have any learned signals present that may be overriding the signals in the upgrade?

I posted the ready-made upgrade in an attempt to reduce the number of steps that you would need to go through just to verify that it works. If it doesn't work, there's not much point in doing anything else with it, but if you were to report back that it did work, I was then planning on pointing you towards the KM file that I created so you could then re-arrange the buttons to suit your taste.

As you seem keen to jump right in without testing the code first, here's the KM file...

Robman, the code works fine. The functions come up in the darndest places though as I'm sure you know. I will start with the KM file you created, and assign the functions to the buttons I want and all should be well.

Johnsfine, the volume, mute, and the functions assigned to the menu, guide, info, and exit, do not work. I understand what you are telling me about the volume lock and will look into it after I configure Robman's KM update. I don't have any learned commands on this remote, It's a virgin except for the Insignia stuff.

Thanks again, You Guys are great. I'll let you know how things are when the smoke clears.

Jack
