the urc-8820 has now got 7 konka tv codes preset, where previous ofa remotes had none. Those are 0632, 0707, 0628, 0703, 1940, 0638, 1939.

IIUC, OFA upgraded your 6131, adding a eeprom and maybe
adding some setup codes.

Either they didn't add the right setup codes, or they
didn't communicate to you which setup codes they added,
so it still didn't work.

I did the code search after I got it back and none of the codes worked. So either way, they didn't add the correct codes for the TV. The codes they said they added were already in the manual. This is why I offered to send them my remote initially but they refused.

So you found and added the right upgrade by JP1.

Yes.

Probably by now they know what the right setup code is,
so the next person sending in a remote for upgrade (or
using the phone for a phone upgradeable model) will get
the right one.

How could they unless OFA got the original remote and learned the commands?

Using a JP1 cable can certainly get you better results
than merely getting the right upgrade from OFA. But for
those who don't want to use JP1, your experience shouldn't
convince them that OFA can't do this upgrade correctly.

I agree, they could of done it correctly. But they didn't and for some reason they don't even know what codes are on the remote to begin with it seems.

An OFA upgraded remote should cost a lot less than the
$50 quoted above.

BTW, before loading the right upgrade, did you download
and save the eeprom contents as upgraded by OFA to see
what they really gave you?

Nope. I didn't understand JP1 when I got the remote so I never would of thought to do it. I still don't know much but enough to use it :)

You originally sent your remote in for an upgrade in December of 2004, I think John's point is that in the 20 months that have passed since then there's a very good chance that OFA has indeed captured the signals from an original remote.

I too am having trouble locating codes for my son's Konka 20" TV. I believe it is also the K2001UM (haven't verified if it is this model or possibly the K2068U). I had hoped to use one of my outdated universal remotes (without JP1), but this doesn't seem possible. Does anyone have the JP1 device codes? If not, after my son cleans up and finds his original remote, I plan to learn the keys and make a device file for my URC-8820, and will post it at www.hifi-remote.com.

If anyone has any data to save me the trouble of the button learning process, please let me know.

I just used my URC-8820 to learn the remote commands for the Konka K2001UM 20" TV. Unfortunately, IR.exe (version 7, beta2 or beta3) did not recognize the keys as a standard protocol. I will be uploading the .ir file with learned codes at www.hifi-remote.com for the experts to work on. As-is, the file does program a blank URC-8820 to control the TV, but I am not sure you can then use it for other devices (based on the strange effects from learning).

Hi Fred, I didn't spot your earlier thread as I don't always check the posts here. I've just loaded an upgrade for Konka TVs over on my web site which will probably work for your son's set.

For those K2001UM owners, Rob's Konka protocol works. The listed device needs a few key name reassignments. I will post this when done (or mostly done, if I get stuck on the final corrections) to work with the URC-8820 and URC-6690.

See [Link: hifi-remote.com] for updates.
