Help. Thomson 52JW642S with urc-9960

I have just get my self a new tv, a thomson 52" and i think that i want a flashing brand new remote to it. I finaly get my new Urc-9960 from USA today ( i lives in sweden) and when i try to set it up the brand thomson isnt there. i tried to "search" for codes with the remote and i tried to manual put numeric codes in to it, but nothing works. When i now read in the forum i see that thomson use 2 codes for 1 action, is there any help to get for this nice little problem so my new tv works with my remote or should i let my kids play with it, they think its funny when it flash on and everything lights up. / Thanks from Sweden.

A 9960 can be upgraded by .wav file.

If you call OFA customer support in the USA, they can play a .wav file over the phone to add one or a few setup codes to your 9960. But they probably won't know which setup code is right for the 52JW642S.

The web based support for the Urc-8060 lists seven setup codes for Thomson TV's. If you called OFA customer support in Europe, they might know which of the seven is right for your Thomson, but they probably can't help you load it into a 9960.

Most of the Thomson TV's whose IR data has been uploaded here at RC, match the OFA setup code TV/0625 (which is present in only a few European models of OFA remote and no USA models, but could be added by .wav file). If you need to guess a setup code that is the best guess. Some models it works for are:

Some models it does NOT work for are:

70MXC97
81MXC98
32VT65J

Maybe your Thomson dealer knows whether any of those has the same or different IR codes as your model.

I posted a JP1 upgrade which is a superset of all the TV/0625 compatible models I found at RC. It is in the Yahoo JP1 file archives. With a JP1 cable it's easier to add that to a 9960 than adding an upgrade via .wav file and gives you more flexibility. But I assume you haven't (yet) purchased a JP1 cable.

The (free) JP1 software also lets you convert an upgrade to a .wav file, so you can load it into a 9960 without the cable. But it takes a little more JP1 expertise to run the software to convert an upgrade to .wav than to load it via cable, so it's a bit much for a JP1 beginner to do.

I might have time tomorrow to convert that file to .wav form and post it somewhere if you want to try loading it. Loading a .wav file from your computer to the 9960 may be easier than over the phone from OFA customer support in the USA.

I just noticed that the .wav file would be different for a URC-9960 vs. URC-9960 B01 and I think there might be other versions as well.

I'll post the .wav for the URC-9960, but if it doesn't work or if you find the more detailed model number, I can post another version.

I just created a directory tree for this in Rob's web space and uploaded a .zip of the .wav file and the RemoteMaster upgrade file used to create that file. It is at

I've never touched a 9960 and I don't know what many of the Thomson functions do (all I have is what the functions were named in various CCF files and two of the functions weren't even named). For both those reasons, I did a rather bad job of deciding which functions should be put on which keys.

After you test this, assuming at least some of it works, please post results back here. If you can tell me more accurate function names, that would help any future users of the JP1 upgrade. If you want the functions moved around to different keys, tell me and I'll give you another .wav file. The current list of keys and which funtion is on each is listed at the bottom of this message.

If you don't know how to load a .wav file into a 9960 (I don't either), there are several threads in this forum discussing it, such as

Edit: At Rob's request I moved the file to a better location within his web space and I edited the URL in this message to reference the new location.

Rob also informed me that the question of which 9960 is which may be trickier than I thought, so I should explain that if the .wav file is for the wrong 9960 then it will be rejected by the remote: After loading it you still won't be able to program TV/0625 onto any device key. But if it is for the right model of 9960 but the wrong model of Thomson then the .wav will load properly and you can then program a device key to TV/0625, but none of the functions will operate the Thomson TV. For each of those, I know what to try next, so be specific about any failure.
