And once I set key pad number 7 with the tape setup code, keymove snt sequence, use 636, and it works. I can't move that newly programmed key to any other key.
It just exits setup.
I tried clearing memory, etc. On Tape, 0243, using advanced code 636, the rcvr will switch to dvd/ld.

I assume you're talking about this thread [Link: remotecentral.com]If the command (636 is the same as 124) worked within the Tape device but didn't work when key moved, you must have done the key move wrong. A key move cannot copy from another key move. A key move can use the SYNT method or it can copy the setup_code_meaning of another key. It cannot copy a keymove, macro or learned signal of another key. Later Edit: I wrote the above before you made clear that you definitely made the mistake that (above) I only guessed you might have made. You did a keymove of Tape:636 onto a key in tape mode. Then you wanted to keymove it again to RCVR mode. You need to use the SYNT method again to specify the 636 (or 124). You can't copy from the key move you defined first.

I don't get invalid or any error message. It just exits setup.
I tried doing a different key move within the rcvr mode. Moved the key that selects fm. Works.

At exactly which step does it "just exits setup" ? Edmund didn't make clear that the "setup" key is marked P on the 2116 nor that the press of P to start the whole KeyMove must be a long press while the press of P to do a SYNT must be a short press.

On phone now with cust. serv. rep. Nice people. It works as long as I use the AUX key. Can program it using 1058 code for rcvr functions and the 7 key will accept the 124/447/636 codes AND works. If select audio button, it will not accept any thing for advanced codes.

OK, step by step time...
1. Program TAPE/0243 to the AUDIO device button 2. Follow the steps in post #7 and program advanced code 124 to the button of your choice (don't pick the EXIT button) 3. Re-program AUDIO/1058 to the AUDIO device button.

It exits when I hit the 7 at the last step of move to key.
The cust. serv. guy put me on hold. It clearly works on AUX. Will not work when use audio button. Something buggy.
Just back on with rep. It is a bug.

I asked the rep what the chances are of this getting fixed. Truthful answer was not very likely. The new kid on the block, the kamelon's, are the next wave and probably these "older" remotes will not get any coding attention. At least not coding at this level.
So if use AUX, all works. If use AUDIO, it will not map to the 7 key no matter what.

Here's what works.
Set AUX to 1058. Sony rcvr code.
Then use the procedure listed above, the synt procedure, to add advanced codes to the 7 key. 124, 447 both work.
My OEM Sony remote is broken and is being exchanged. But it takes 6 weeks. So in about 2 months maybe I'll get to learn the commands. For now I'm stopping by the stereo store to see if I can learn the command in the store.
Thanks for the help. Will be ordering the jp1 kit asap.

I'm going to try and re-produce this at home, so are you saying that if I try and program an advance code to the "7" button in AUDIO mode, it won't work, but in other modes it does work?
I'm sceptical, which is why I want to see it for myself.
As for bugs being fixed, there's not much they can do for remotes that are already in your hands, but if they find the bug they can make sure that it's not re-produced in future remotes.

Yes. With rcvr set to Sony 1058 on Audio Button. UEI cust. support found same thing. Just going to try now with some of the different device codes.
The 7 gets the "success" message too. Just doesn't work for the rcvr. So its not sending something.

With my pioneer receiver, using SETUP code 1023, which doesn't accept advanced codes too. I need to get them from AMP0013, so it's a similar situation to yours. I make AUDIO code AMP0013, map advanced code 038(tape 1) to the #7 key, change AUDIO from AMP0013 to RCVR1023, success, I now have tape 1 command on #7, under code 1023 where it wasn't before. And yes I'm using the 2116.

So I should try changing the audio button to tape 023, program the 7 button to work under tape, then switch the device back to rcvr without touching any programming on button 7?
I'll try that.

Worked. Set audio button to tape in code set. Then did advanced codes for dvd/ld, 124, assigned to key pad 7 but device was set to tape. It worked. Then reset audio button back to rcvr, assigned code 1058. Button 7 works to select dvd/ld.
Man.
Talk about the long way around.
