Hi.

Got a URC-8800B00, and the red light does not light when I press a key. Every remote I know of that has one of those red LEDs will light the LED when you hit a button and it transmits the signal.
Oh, yes, it *is* transmitting.

The only time the light goes on is when I use LEARN, and when I press one of the 1L-6L buttons (after they're learned). It doesn't go on with any other button press.

Note that I'm talking about the red LED, not the general blue light that you can toggle on/off with the LITE key.

Since I'm here, I want to mention another issue. Some of the buttons are fairly unresponsive. I have to push the pretty hard, or multiple times, to get them to fire. Is that normal for this remote?

Thanks!

Can't help with the second issue, however as far as I know the red LED is only used for learning... there's a "sending" graphic on the LCD.

Frankly, It sounds like you may have a lemon. Take it back to the store you bought it from, exchange it, and try the new one out in the parking lot before you leave (at least to see if the red light works). If you get two in a row that give you trouble, then try a different remote. Some have noted problems with the sealant put on the circuit board not being carefully enough masked when applied, and affecting the performance of some buttons. If you can't get your's exchanged, and are willing to open it up, then lightly scuffing the contact patch beneath your troublesome buttons with a pencil eraser might make them more reliable.

As for the red light, if it works anytime, then it isn't burnt out. I have no clue what could have happened to make it not work reliably. Probably just that "lemon" thing, as I said earlier.

Good luck,

Dave

Thanks for the replies.

Dave, I'm not clear on one thing from your post.
Are you saying that the remote *should* light the LED whenever I press *any* transmitting button?

I wasn't totally clear in my initial question. It seemed possible to me that that LED only lights in certain situations---like with the learning keys. But since I'm new to this remote, I don't know for sure (as I said, every other remote I've seen lights the LED on any button). The LED is obviously not burned out on my unit, which is why I started wondering if the type of performance I am seeing is normal or not.

Thanks again.

Trust Daniel. If your LCD says it is transmitting, then they probably figured that was enough visual feedback.

If you still have some unreliable buttons, then you might want to follow my advice left in the first reply.

The red LED will only light when it is ready to receive a signal while in the learning mode.

I had a lot of problems with the coating on my circuit bd. I posted the procedure to clean them and disassemble the remote under URC-9800-HELP" by chris.
