OK, I built the solderless version of the JP1 box, and am now trying to connect to my 15-1994. THe problem Im having is that it connects fine to download, but once it starts the download, I get "No definition file exists for this remote, continue anyway?".....now, I dont know if this is normal, so I choose to continue.
After that, Im told I will need to provide some raw data before anything can be computed for me. Again, I dont know if this is normal, nor do I know what data to input.
Further, if I try to upload something, I keep getting "Write failed, errno=3"..........what is errno 3?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Each different remote is identified in IR.exe by an RDF file. When you first use IR.exe, select "new" in the FILE menu and you will see an option to choose the rdf file for your 15-1994. Then you can proceed to download. If you do not get this option, check to make sure you unzipped everything in the original zip file I assume you downloaded from the jp1 files section. You should probably post this at [email protected] for an answer from the real pros.

I agree this should be posted at the jp1 site. I really discourage the building of the solderless design. Those plugboards are not built to be reliable in the long term, and they add a lot of capacitance to each node in the circuit. I know there are more than a few people who have working implementations, though. Radio Shack has PCB's laid out in an identical layout to the plugboard, which are made for transfering a prototyped design to a soldered board, one component and one wire at a time. I recommend this.

IR.exe is not reading the first few bytes of your remote correctly, so it is not recognizing the remote type. Look at the raw data screen in IR.exe after you try to download from the remote. Look at addresss 002-004. These compose a 3-byte hex ID for the remote. IR.exe uses this to search for an .RDF file for the remote. An .RDF for the 15-1994 is included in the distribution, so I presume you have it in place in the directory your running from.

Turns out that one contact of a diode was in the wrong spot. Put it in the correct spot (and re-did my JP1 connector to make it shorter, just to be sure) and all is well. Was even able to load up the code for my Onkyo DVD changer (which is what started this whole mess anyway).
I only used the solderless breadboard because I didnt think I was going to use it that much, but now its just a kick ass toy :) so I will be xferring it to a PCB soon enough.

Thanks for the responses!!! (and sorry for "polluting" this forum ;) ).
