I just got a Cinema 7 IQ (URC-7800) and am pretty happy with it so far, except for one quirk that doesn't seem to match with what's posted on the net.

I was loading the advanced commands for an Apex AD600A DVD player using the instructions found at [Link: hifi-remote.com] when I ran into a hitch.

The up and down arrow buttons don't seem to be allowed as choices when you're custom programming a TV code 0030. Or, said another way, when I (e.g.) do this:

DVD-SETUP(hold)-9-9-4-SETUP-1-4-8-UPARROW

...I don't get two blinks after the up-arrow at the end, and nothing seems to get put in that key.

The same is true of the down-arrow button. I ended up learning the codes direct from the APEX remote after I set the DVD button back to being a DVD button (SETUP[hold]-9-9-2-DVD-DVD) - I noticed that when the DVD button was still in 'TV/0030' mode, the up and down arrow buttons didn't make the LED blink at all.

Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks for reading this far :) If emailing, delete the obvious from my email address to make it usable!

Sounds like you simply ran out of key move memory, how many buttons did you program? There's only enough key move memory to program 45 buttons, less if you are using macros.

Learning uses a different memory bank, so that explains why you could still learn even though the key move memory bank was full.

Nope, it wasn't key move memory - the up arrow and down arrow were among the first couple of keys I tried to program. As far as I can tell, TV/0030 doesn't think that the up arrow and down arrow are valid keys on the Cinema 7 IQ. (I did notice that the instructions I was following were directed primarily towards the RS 15-1994...)

I'm not worried, it took the learned commands with no problem and works just fine, but I was a little weirded out...

So no one else has run into this?

The instructions on my site should work for either the 15-1994 or the Cinema 7. I am totally familar with the TV/0030 code and the Apex AD600A and I have never heard of a situation like you describe. I cannot think of what could be possibly causing it.

Interesting! This (as far as I can tell) is a pretty recent version of the Cinema 7 IQ - perhaps the TV/0030 code has been revised to think that the up and down buttons are nonfunctional?

If I ever see another one (they're oddly rare in the Seattle area, at least at the stores I was going to) I'll try the setup stuff again. I'm just happy to have a working Apex remote integrated into the main control!

I just realized something: the Cinema 7 IQ I got was an open-box special, and I was so eager to start using it I didn't 9-8-1 reset it first! Maybe that has something to do with my inability to use up/down keys on TV 0030...

Now I just have to decide if I'm curious enough to do the 9-8-1 reset and then reprogram the C7 with the Apex remote all over again :)

Better yet, you could build yourself and upgrade box and add the Apex code properly, by creating a new device code for it. Doing it this way you won't use up any keymove memory.
