How long is the usual wait until you are issued a TAG# from hudsonag? So far, I have emailed them 4 times (3 weeks apart) and have never received an answer. I do receive an email stating "in order to receive a TAG#, please provide the following info...". I supply the info and never hear back. I have been corresponding through [email protected] Is there another/better way to communicate with them? I would like this sorted out.

All I want to do is have my A/V Producer 8 (URC-8800)upgraded so that it will control my Tivo. This wait is getting ridiculous.

thanks

Don't bother with email, just call them on the phone, I forget the number but it's in the manual on my site.

But I should warn you that the TiVo code that they'll give you sucks, it's missing several buttons including the arrow keys.

The problem with Tivo is that the remote uses a high frequency for the navigation keys that the Producer can not create.

Where on earth did you hear that? The signal used for the arrow keys is perfectly normal, it's just not included in the UEIC code.

I just got off the phone with the UEI rep, after explaining I wanted to upgrade my 8800 she noted that the upgrade would only support certain functions due to the "high frequency" of the Tivo codes used. I didn't try to argue given she was clearly reading and didn't sound particularly technically inclined. This is clearly bogus, as I've managed to reprogram most of the Tivo keys onto my X10 8-in-1 learning remote ([Link: smarthome.com]).

So the question is, can I use advanced codes to program the directional keys? If not, it's really not worth it to upgrade, I don't think.

Update to my last post - the X10 8-in-1 remote I referred to is available from X10.com for $24.99 ([Link: x10.com]), and based on their almost-perpetual promotions, you can get $20 off, plus other free stuff. If you can't figure it out from their front page, sign up for their mailing list, and you'll receive instant discount vouchers on a regular basis. I don't know how these guys make any money, but that's probably another story.

Anyway, almost every key on this remote is programmable, it has a shift key making for relatively intuitive reprogramming, and as a bonus can control X10 stuff if you have the basic X10 starter kit (very cheap). I have found that if I try to program all the Tivo controls onto one function (e.g. cable box) I run out of memory (I think - the LED blinks rapidly), so I had to put a few functions on another function (e.g. Aux1), which seems to work fine.

it's true - I had some pull with One-For-All, having written a magazine review of the URC9800. After getting the upgrade and sending a number of Emails, I received a to the effect that some of the TiVo codes were incompatible with the Producer (essentially the TiVo required sequences the Producer couldn't generate). I'm sure they'll correct this is new products, but the Producer was designed before the TiVo, I guess.

oh - you can sue the Learning Keys to cover 6 of the non-mapped keys on the TiVo

Jeff, I'm sorry to say that for all your "pull", you've been fed the same line of BS that they tried giving to cyclone.

See my response to the other thread for the technical details. [Link: 208.42.81.123]

Botton line, anyone who wants to make a UEIC remote, such as the 15-1994, Cinema 7, etc, control TiVo just build a simple interface box or cable and load up the code that we have already pre-prepared for you.
