I just bought the Cinema 6, and ran into a problem. I also tried the Radio Shack 15-1994. Same problem (of course).

I have a JVC XV501BK DVD player, and I've noticed that there's a problem with UEI's code 558 for JVC: it works all DVD player functions EXCEPT play and pause.

In addition, I've tried manually coding those keys with what UEI says are the play and pause extended codes. No such luck. UEI has apparently SCREWED UP with their code 558.

I *love* the Radio Shack unit. And I've been very, very, VERY happy in the past with the Radio Shack implementations of the One For All units. But this sucks.

So now I'm looking for another brand of universal remote. Learning won't work, sorry; I don't have the original DVD remote (and won't, not at $84.50). Any ideas? I'd love to stay with UEI, but my guess is this kind of problem won't be fixed for quite awhile if ever.

There are only 255 advanced codes for each device code. Even though they are sometimes listed as high numbers (up to 999) you can the numbers 001 thru 256 and see if any of them work as PLAY and PAUSE. I did this with all of my devices, and was delighted to find several undocumented functions were there.

Use the sequence: SETUP*-**a*b*c* where a,b,and c are the three digits of the advanced code. Have your remote aimed at the device and see what happens.

Good luck,

Dave

Sorry... the sequence is

SETUP*a*b*c*

You don't need to hold down the setup key.

David, which part of SETUP*a*b*c* tells to which key you want to assign this advanced code.

Adrian, the SETUP*a*b*c* doesn't assign the code to a key. It simply sends whatever command is tied to that code. So for example, if "power" was assigned to code 123, you could--without ever touching your power key--hit SETUP*1*2*3* and the "power" command would be sent.

Every command has a code attached to it. From the factory, many commands are already attached to certain keys. However, since you have (a) the ability to send ANY command using the SETUP*a*b*c method, and (b) the ability to map ANY command to ANY key, you can use the 994 method to assign any command to any key directly.

First press the device key that you wish to program. Next, hold the MAGIC (on Radio Shack, the P) button until the remote blinks twice, then press 9-9-4. Now tap the MAGIC button, followed by the 3-digit code for your desired function. Finally, press the button that you would like to assign for this function. It's best to use buttons that do not already perform functions in the mode you are using (ex. the STOP buttons, or PLAY, PAUSE, etc... can be used in the TV mode since your TV does not use play for anything else.)

Thanks Adam
... I never know that, I wish I had it would have saved me screwing up a key by mistake last night and then spending 20 minutes searching for the setup**9*4*4*SETUP*key*key method on this forum to reset my key.

Thanks again
-Adrian
