After all the hype about this remote and the promise of all the "good things", I am fast coming to the conlusion that this remote is a whole lot of "hot air", as someone else put it a while ago.
Long connection times
Any break out zone has to be a PC
My Nevo studio has now crashed two of my applications
It's fussy about access points and routers it likes.
If someone from Nevo is listening out there, you might want to look into all of the above and get us some answers downunder before this brick gets the reputation of just that.
Apart from the media library part of this remote which is average at best.
Fools like me see your little demos, sell the product and are then stuck with this piece of S#*t.
The Marantz and Pronto are a more reliable and cheaper option despite thier bad representation in Australia.

Promises, promises, promises

I second that...
Also has anyone found mynevo.com to be any help whatsoever?

No! I think we are alone down here and the troubles seem to be very localised to our country. New Dlink firmware is apparently out, so fingers crossed I willl try it shortly.

mynevo.com isn't helpful at all yet. They did just come out with their Nevo University, or something like that, but it's a lot of basic stuff so far. I'm hopefully going to be connecting it with the Nevolink this week and I'll update on it's reliability. What I've seen so far is that the connection to my network with the Linksys AP is unreliable. I am going to attempt with the Netgear as was recommended.
The big thing I'm waiting for is to see it work with the Escient.
I know I'm not down under, but just wanted to let you know that some of these problems aren't just in your hands.

Please see previous comments by me in this forum re the nevo. I don't have any connecting to the Nevo link, but the client media device is my greatest concern. Thanx for your input tho.

Interesting...

I posted a while ago that Nevo software had f'd up my computer. I also found that it wasn't nearly as customizable as I like. The one I sold to a client is coming back because he only gets about two hours on a charge usisng wireless...

Australia and everywhere else... RTI t3 with an RP6 is an actual "Control System"... not just a remote. Since I switched I've been more impressed every time (best of all so have my clients).

I have not had any signficant issues with the Nevo SL. In fact, I really like it. I think it is very customizable. If you leave wi-fi on all of the time, the battery life is low. But it doesen't need to be on all of the time. The default timeouts are fine. It does take about 15 seconds to reconnect from a time out.

I have learned you have to make the timeout changes in the editing software, not on the unit. Then download the config and the settings will take effect.

I have had 4,000 mp3's streaming from the Nevo and it works fine with a D-Link Media Lounge product. I also saw the unit working with Escient at CEDIA.

There is a new version of the OS in Beta beginning in a few days or so.

I also had the pleasure of meeting with an executive-level management member and there are some nice improvements and new features on the way.

I also agree, if you want a complete control system for your theater, the RTI products mentioned are very good but they are also 2x the price.

Yes, I am sure you can upgrade, like any of the other remotes. There will likely be firmware and Nevo Studio upgrades.

This is all very well, but in Aus the Nevo DOES NOT control the Dlink media lounge. This is my biggest frustration, because it seems to in every other part of the world. Dlink are supposed to be releasing a new firmware version for aus in Sept. The end of Sept is fast approaching. Can your senior exec. mate help us in Aus.

V frustrating.

BTW - I have found setting the Nevo to never turn off while out of the cradle and timeout when in the cradle to be the best combination in regards to the connection issue. Then just have a "Connect button" with a fancy time animation for 8 secs that the client selects when they pick it up.

Marc,

As a potential work around, download a copy of Windows Media Connect, which is a software media server and try that. Load it on the PC that has Nevo Media Server installed. Don't uninstall anything.

Does the DLink even see the Nevo Media Server?

When I did the labwork on the Dlink, it saw both of the servers mentioned above, so I had a choice on which to use. I switched over to use the Windows media connect and it worked fine also.

ddarche,

My Nevo sees the Dlink media lounge, but the control is eratic. It will jump a couple of songs etc... It is apparently something to do with the latest version of firmware for the DSM, available in Aus at the moment. The DSM can see the music component of the Nevo music server fine, but not the video. I don't really care about the video right now anyway.

Cheers,

As I mentioned, download Microsoft Media Connect and try that as the main Media server. I noticed it was very stable. Try it for yourself.

I also noticed a disconnect when trying to view video. The D-link doesn't want to see one type of video and the Nevo wants to see a different type of video. I don;t remember which is which at the moment but they were opposed, as I recall.

Thanx Dave, I'll give Microsoft media connect a go. When I get a chance.

Media connect didn't help, but thanx for trying. I am starting to loose hope.
