Just when I was starting to forget about Pronto, my Nevo does something like this! My Nevo will no longer charge via the cradle. I have checked the contacts, everything is clean. The back of the Nevo and the cradle light up. The battery icon on the Nevo screen even cycles but nothing is happening with the battery. The Nevo finally died while on the cradle. I have discovered that the unit does still charge via the USB port BUT that makes the cradle pretty much useless.

Has anyone else experienced this?? Heard of this?? Know of a solution to this??

And while we are on the subject of battery: what is the process for exchanging the battery when this one is worn out? Is it replaceable (like the Pronto) or not (like the iPod)?

Very disappointing...

Chris

UPDATE: The Nevo does charge via USB, but since the 8 hour battery life requires an every night charge, I'd have to leave my computer on all night, everynight. When I place it on the cradle, everything points to a functional cradle/charge but when I take the Nevo off the cradle, the battery is more depleted than when I put it on!

So somewhere between the cradle's contacts and the Nevo's battery there is a probelm. It's not the battery itself or it wouldn't charge via USB. Seems funny too that the contacts trigger the blue light on both the cradle and the Nevo as well as cause the battery indicator on the screen to cycle but still not charge it.

ANY IDEAS? I've emailed Nevo but the last 2 times I've emailed them I haven't heard a word.

Chris,
Do you have the blue lights on the charger? This would indicate if the ac adapter has failed. Just to check the ac adapter, if you have a volt-ohm meter, try measuring voltage between the center connection and the outside sleeve. Should measure around 5 volts. Not sure if it is DC or AC.

This is something I've been wondering also - is the Nevo designed to be disposable? There appears to be no way to replace the battery. This seems like a serious oversight, as Li-ion batteries don't last that long...

Thanks for the responses guys.

Dave: The blue light comes on when the remote is docked. There is a blue light for the cradle and the remote (on the back-end). I think it (the cradle) is getting power. The remote also registers a connection (via the cycling battery indicator at the top of the screen) but the battery itself does not charge unless it is hooked via USB. There is a bad connection somewhere between the contacts on the remote and the battery. The battery is not completely disconnected, however, because like I said it gets a charge.

Well, I would be surprised if the battery is dead already. Possibly the charger is at fault?

The Li-On battery can be replaced by removing the screws holding the unit together and the Li-On battery plugs in, if replacement is necessary.

Have you tried to pry that thing apart? - not easy!! Plus the battery is like stuck with adhesive to the enclosure...

I'm having the same power problem. Everthing indicates a charge, even the battery indicator is cycling through indicating a charge. As soon as I pull the nevo off the charger is says I'm at a crtitical level. It won't let me do anything, but eventually it times out and starts back up indicating a decent battery level. 50% or more. This has only happened since the first update (I'm yet to do the second update). Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Alex,

I guess I would recommend you put in a call to the Nevo SL tech support and see if they have any similar calls. It might be nice to trap this problem, if it is more widespread.

Ironically, mine worked fine until the first update, too. The second doesn't help any. Currently mine is once again charging by cradle. A short maybe?

Now it won't charge again. When I began having trouble charging I cut back my power settings from keeping the nevo/Wifi on at all times while on battery to powering down after 3 minutes (for each). Once I noticed it was charging again, I moved them back up to Never/Never. Now it won't charge again.

I just changed the settings to 15min/15min and put it back on the charger. Does anyone out there keep there power settings turned all the way up to Never/Never while on battery? Does anyone else have charging inconsistencies?

Hello all,

I'm now experiencing the same problems with a Nevo not two mopnths old:-

1. The Nevo battery runs down quickly.
2. When on the cradle, it's illuminated and the battery symbol is cycling.
3. After charging overnight, only 50% charge indicated (on the battery icon).

Yesterday, I did some extensive changes to the Nevo and it was connected, via USB, for several hours but still gave a warning bleep after three hours when off both USB and cradle.

However, unlike you guys, I've not yet upgraded my Nevo.

I've just contacted UEI and will post their reply. In the meantime, has anyone had a reply from UEI?

Nope. After 2 weeks and 5-7 emails: Nada.

What were your power management settings? I've not had any problems (yet) other than when my settings were max'd out. Granted, charging problems were intermittent even with settings max'd out, so maybe I'm just inside anoth "good" window. We'll see.

Keep us posted on your progress with the non-responsive UEI team...

Hi ckelly33,

"What were your power management settings?"

On both Battery and on AC
WiFi off - 10mins
Nevo off - 10mins

The UK importer, Armour Home Electronics, say they are unawre of any major problems but have sent a few units back to UEI with faulty batterys. They also say that exchanging the battery is a factory process and that could mean a long, long wait for those of us outside the US!

I nor any of my customers have had any power issues with any of the NevoSLs that I've put into various jobs.

Even the unit that I've been testing with at home for the past four months is still going strong and I charge that baby every night.

NevoSLs do come with a one year warranty, so if the unit really does have a bad battery, I'm don't think you'll have any problems returning the unit back to the AVAD location you got it from (or Armour in our European friend's case).

Hi,

I have a new Nevo, upgraded, and have the same problem. It won't charge on the cradle -- but it will with the USB connection.

The blue light does come on, and I have even tried putting a small weight on the Nevo when it is in the cradle to make sure it is making a good connection with the contacts -- no luck.
