I just got my Nevo yesterday, and only a couple hours of messing with it, I have a pretty nice looking control system that works great. First off, the remote is bigger than I thought, and feels sturdier than I thought it would be. It's about the same exact weight as a pronto it seems, and thinner. The hardbutton layout is much nicer than my pronto. The software kicks prontoedit's butt. It's a very intuitive software program, and I never read any intruction manual. It has a device setup wizard, that will download all the possible codes for the make of device you are trying to add. Then you toggle through the different code sets, and decide which one works best, and select it. It even had the "skip ahead" for my Motorola DVR which isn't available on the OEM remote or anywhere else. I love that. The graphics are much easier to customize on this remote than on my pronto. Font types and sizes change at the click of a mouse. If you want a different button to take the place of another, you just drag and drop it onto the old button from the gallery. You can drag and drop different backgrounds to each page easily. I haven't tried the wireless portion of the remote yet, and not sure if I want to after reading some of the threads here. I don't really need it, because all my devices are behind glass doors in the tv console and I control my HTPC with a gyration mouse and keyboard. I just am loving this thing for what it is, a great universal remote that is well thought out and well laid out and built solidly.

Sorry for the ramble, I'm just happier with this remote than I thought I would be.

Mark

Edit: I forgot to say I also love that it charges through the USB cable when attached to a pc... That is cool and handy

as a dealer, the nevo is weak on reliability, but as a user i love mine.

my customers that have nevo's love them, but we are only using it as an ir remote, no nevo link or media server crap. only issue's we have is run away volume(other run away but volume is the biggy) and when you dont use it for a while , it needs to wake up before it will transmit the macros properly.

nevo needs reliable wifi control and rs232 control of equipment , then its a winner.

Yeah, I think you hit the weak points on the head there ed. I turned on the wifi and got it talking to the network and controlling the picture and music server, but I think I'd rather just use my RF mouse and keyboard. The nevo seems a bit buggy, and cuts out. Plus it's just not that comfortable to sit and sift through thousands of pictures with. I'll stick with using it as a dedicated IR remote, but it is great at that.

Its great to be able to browse a music collection and choose songs. Unfortunatly the reliability of the Nevo in regards to this use is too unreliable at this time. Not ready for prime time. Part of the problem can be tied to the Windows environment it operates in, part of the problem is reconnecting to the network if it drops off. I have a Roku that works equally well for music selection but without the graphics. It has shown no reliability issues, but the Roku lacks portability. I am frustrated by what I think is the ideal device except for reliability.

The reliability of the wifi is the only thing this remote seems to be lacking phil. I would still like it though if I had a whole house audio system like in my last house. It is a great IR remote though. Love the layout of the hard buttons, and the reliability of the touchscreen seems to be very high. I am a bit concerned about battery life in my unit though. I've backed down the brightness, and the time delay before shutoff, and it seems to be a bit better now. I hate it that we can't swap up to a bigger battery as was possible in the pronto. Has anyone torn one of these apart and seen what type of battery is in it? If so, what's the first step to getting the case apart?

If you haven't been told, the runaway volume was fixed in the last firware release. It is capped at 3 seconds then stops. An installer can modify this number as needed.

Yeah ed, me too. What firmware number is the new firmware? I upgraded mine the first night I got it, and yesterday the runaways were driving me nuts. Especially the Channel up and down, and the volumes. I added the delay 100ms to each thinking they would only run once, but they still repeat. Any suggestions? It made it almost impossible to stop at the right channel yesterday. Today it's working not bad.

No, not all runaways were fixed internally, only the volume runaway. See my original post in this forum about runaways, for more detail.

This hardly happens to me yet you guys are talking like it happens every day???? I am wondering if you are pressing the button or flicking it in some quick way?

Do you have a config which was created in 1.0 and have been updating it? After a post I read here, I completely re-did my config in 2.0 without borrowing anything from my earlier 1.0 config and it has been just about flawless.

I am still confused about the repeat symptoms I have been reading and I am really confused about the fact that some users never see these and others see them all of the time!!

I had the same issue with the hard buttons but I rectified the issue by removing any beeps from them. Hope this helps.

Perry, I think that may have just been a coincidence for you. I never had my hard buttons beeping. I also have updated my firmware through NevoStudio multiple times, and thought that it had taken care of it, but to no avail. I still have times when runaway is rampant. Dave, is that how we are supposed to be able to get that runaway limiter, through the update feature at the bottom of the tools menu in NevoStudio?

Mark,
Pity you haven't found this helpful. Have you tried adding beeps and then removing them? A long shot but worth a try.

Marky,

The volume UP limiter is embedded into the firmware update, probably the update before last. Yes, if you haven't updated the firmware:

In NevoStudio - Tools menu - Go to Nevo Device Utility update and it will tell you if you need the firmware update.

Actually, Perry Brill is quite correct with the beep. Adding a beep to a button, actually turns the command into a macro and will not repeat. For more detailed info on this, see my recent post about repeating solutions.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Ok, so I was wrong :). I added the beep to each of the volume buttons, and channel buttons, and it seems to have worked. I hate the beep though. Any chance they may fix this problem the right way sometime soon? I can't believe a 800 dollar remote has this kind of problem.

Also, do you have to add the beep to each button separately, or is there somewhere in the system to set them all at the same time?

Thanks for the workaround guys. It'll have to do until nevo gets it right.

Thanks again,
Mark

Followup, the beep did'nt help.

Marky,

I have a post here somewhere which outlines all of the fixes for runaway.

You can add delays and it should fix it. Beeps are just one of the fixes.

For volume and channel, add a 100 ms delay before the ir code. Take the beeps out.
