OK, so I will be recieving my Nevo SL sometime today. I was wanting to know a few things from some of you veteran Nevo users:
1. What should I focus on doing first ?
2. How do I find out what firmware version is being used ?
3. I do not plan on using Wi-Fi, how do I turn it off ?
4. Any other recommendations ?

Thank you !

congrats.

1. Install & update NevoStudio (use Nevo studio's help menu to check for & install updates)
2. If you do not plan on using WiFi, don't bother installing the server and the player (also on install CD)
3. As far as I know all Nevo's come out with the same firmware which means you'll have to update it. Allow 30+mins for this.
4. As far as I can recall, you have to go through NevoStudio's tool menu to activate WiFi so just don't do that and it'll never come on. IF it does come on by default, use the tool->settings menu to turn it off.

edit:sorry chris, i didnt see your post before i sent mine. i had to run off and didnt notice until now. lol

THEN you will add all your devices and test the unit to see what functions work and what you will need to learn from the original remote. from there its a matter of organizing the pages and buttons to your prefernce. add activities and macro's and you're pretty much off to the races!

if you like you can send me an email and i will send you a copy of my configuration(if i havent already, i've lost track! lol), you'll find my email add in my profile... all the best!

Ok some basic questions...

I get into NS and look for the components that Ihave (a Denon Amplifier) and it says it has 2 codes for me to test. 1 of the codes seems to work for the most part but not all of the pre-formatted buttons work the correct functions on the amplifier. For instance, the button labeled "DVD" input mode makes the input VCR. Is there a way I can customize those buttons even if I pick that pre-set Denon code in Nevo Studio ?

And then can I delete certain buttons from that interface if I know I owuld never use them ?

Take the erroneous commands and edit them by learning the correct command from the original remote (highlight the bad command then hit the little "pencil icon" above it and follow the instructions.

I've never deleted unused commands and they never really get in the way I just don't use them. I suppose that you could if you wanted to. IF you ever, during a tweaking, find that you wish you did have it, it'll be gone. That's the only scenario I can think of as to why not to do it...

Couldn't I just add a button with the appropriate command back into said page if I was to need something in the future ?

Sorry I guess I misunderstood you. Yes, delete the unused/unwanted buttons. I thought you were wanting to delete the IR COMMANDS that you aren't using.

YEah I got that config...thanks! It is nice to see how you did that.

How do you setup multiple functions to 1 button ? Like If I wanted to setup a button that would turn on my Amplifier, my DVD player and the TV to the correct input (which I am not sure can be done for my TV) so that it would get everything ready for the "movie experience" (as I call it).

by making macro's. if you look at my home page and click on one of the activity buttons you will see a list of commands from different devices. this is dont by adding the commands from the device menu at the top right hand corner. add the commands from one device, then go to the list of devices, choose a different one, and proceed to add commands from that device to the desired button.

in the bottom left hand corner you will find your delay options(sometimes you need to add a time delay between commands, allowing time for a device to turn on or whatever), jump to page options, etc...

ie: go to your amp in the list of devices. drag the power on command to the appropriate button. then drag the amp input command. then change to your TV on the device list. then drag the power on command to the same button, simply proceed in this fashion till the macro is complete. you would end the macro with a "jump to page" command, so after the macro is complete you are left on the appropriate device page.

sounds like a few hours with the instruction manual would serve you well! ; )

Awesome, thanks Stealth ! Yeah I am about half way through the NS Design Guide.

I guess for getting my Sony 60" TV to change to the correct input (input 6) I will have to set the macro to perform five (assuming the TV is already on input 1) input IR functions with pauses in between each one. I do not believe there is a dedicated "Input 6" function IR command on the original remote for that but I will check.

This is some really cool stuff ! I know it will take me some time to get it all figured out but your guys' help is really making the process that much better.

Thanks again.

Make sure you have registered and use the online model based lookup to find your products. It is the bottom option when you initially start the new device wizard.

Then experiment with the way you look for your model #'s. If you have RAV-1234, try just searching for RAV and expand the # of hits to 50. If that search didn't produce a good result, try just the 1234 part or try Rav-1. The use of dashes in the right spot is important. Also try using the # on the remote control for a specfic product, as the search criteria.

nofears, yes that is exactly how you would run that macro. and yes you would prbably want to put a delay between each input command as the TV prob takes a slplit second to change inputs. also as dave mentioned you may find a same brand similar model TV that DOES have individual inputs, saving you running such a long macro.

FYI, i think maybe only 3 of my devices i actually found the exact model. for the most part the models i ended up with had better, newer commands, such as individual inputs instead of pressing the one button over and over. and if you are missing functions it is VERY simple to learn them from the original device remote.

nofears,

can you not find a discrete code for you input select? Discrete codes trigger the desired action directly rather than relying on cycling through multiple commands.

These discerete codes are certainly available on most models, especially major brands like Sony, even though they are not necessarily packed inside your original remote control.

Do a search in Google and here in this forum (or in Remote central's file section) for the model number of your TV along with the word "discrete" and you may very well have a better solution than cycling through the inputs.

Yeah that is a good idea about the discrete codes. You know what I have always wondered however..is this...I wonder when you "cycle" through (lets say) an input button for a TV and it goes through all the different inputs...I wonder if the same code is sent each time and it actually cycles through all inputs or if a "discrete" code is sent each time you press the input button and it then tells the TV to go to that specific input ?

Does anyone know for sure about this possibility ?

my TV is a Sony KF60WES610 LCD TV. I will go search for discrete codes for it right now.
